This unnatural excitement gives them at once a distaste for the sober, rational, nd permanent enjoyments ef life iencer n sooner is one entertainment past than the desire ef another commences, and as yet seeing none of the evil consequences which must sooner or later Inevitably flow from such scenes of vice and foily. They go on Increasing tbeir freqneucy until appetite lias become so strong and Invincible by indulgence that when some a'anulng shock startles the dreamers from their slumbers and awakens reality, they thin find themselves within the jaws of the cataract and in the embrace of ruin. Young man, w say to you, honestly and sincerely, as yen love life, happiness, and character yonr all ;tench this is the only not the unclean thing motto in which there Is safety. Do not rush on with this blind prcsnmptuoi s confidence In yourselves. Are not gone natures human natures? Can they withstand the temptations to which others have yielded? Arc your youthful and unsuspecting principles Impregnable to the wily and seductive arts that have prostrated the experience of calm calculations and the sober reflections of matnrer age? Remember, young man, that you are net contending with an open and manly enemy. You aro to be token- with a silken snare, whereon there Is an Inviting fountain, a cooling shade, or an en chanting grove; there crouches the tiger; there colls the viper. Didecd, there are flowers that bedeck the gardens ef riotous pleasure, but they repose on beds of scorpions. t There are smiles that play upon the face of sensuality, but beneath her robe are daggers and death. As happiness Is the first great desire of our being, It may be asked, would an Individual adopt and still persist in a course of Intoxication If it was really fraught with so much misery to himself? It la no fault of his desire after haypt-bckIt la his awfully mistaken pursuit of it. Why a drunkard should remain a drunkard la a less difficult question. But why a sober and reflecting man should be led to and plunged blindfolded luto this polluted and soul devouring vortex is, Indeed, surprising. But such Is the fact. Neither age, rankt nor condition has any guarantee except In total abstinence from all that can intoxicate. We have seen the pride and tiie ambition of youth, the co'd calculating jugeinent of manhood, and the experience of ago, all blighted and prostrated at the remorseless shrine of Intemperance. We hare seen the giant Intellect, whose magic energy could calm the wild waves of the human heart, or excite to tempest the slumbering sea of passion, at his will, and the,, at best, disgusting, senseless, and brawling idiot, In the same brutal nd undlatingulshtug companionship. We have aeon the youth of confidence and promise, a father's hope and a mothers consolation, whose opening apitng was but flowers and sunshine, but whose summer by the Sahara blast of dlslpatlon was autumn, mildew, ami death. We have seen tho hopes of the lover, whose gentle whisper soothed and gladdened him In the hour of disappointment and trial, drowned in the same brutal bowl, and their once happy but now wretched subject turned to a demon, sneering at his former professions, and even as he staggered against the portal of eternity, flinging defiance lu the face of coming retribution. Think you, reader, that If these, w hen they were what are called moderate drinkers, could have seen as clear as the mid day sun the lamentable termination of their career, or the hitter weeds of remorse and misery that were springing up In tbeir future pathwav, ir must they have entered upon this pain and wretchedness as the certain and Immediate effects of occasionally sipping a glassof their brandy or wblshy.would they net at once and forever have dashed the pqlson cup from their lips, and trampled w ith Indignation this penny temptation beneath their feel? Alas! however unhappy It may have been with others, It will not be so with us. This Is the syren song that ruins imm and woman, that delusive w bisper that has destroyed more human happiness and expectation than the famine or the sword, the very lethc In which reason slumber and apprehension dreams in security. It is this that has ruined so many myriads of onr youth who, by an ardent feeling natural to the g', at first. There Is considerable trouble on the Indian res ervatlon and a great deal of excitement among the people as to the safety of their lives. Monday, Robert Hull, living north of this place, and his nephew, Win. Hull, of Cache valley, were returning from I' tali and had camped on the little Biockfoot river. They were preparing their meal when a dreaded red devil who had been filling tip on fire water approached the wagon with a Winchester rifle In hand, took aim and fired, piercing the nephew through the bock and heart. He then fired at Robert as lie looked np shooting him throng li the head. Both men dropped over dead In each others arms. The Indian gave a war hoop and flourishing his rlflo and tomahawk over his head, disappeared. Fisher, the Indian agent at Fort Hall agency, dispatched the Indian police with Instructions to bring tbe murderous Indiau In eltlisr dead or alive. They retained with dead Indian, ne resisted the policemen ami true to Instructions they sent a leaden missive Into Ids body. He grabbed the end of tho gnn but at that Instant another shot was fired, his hand was torn to pieces ami he dropped over dead. They reported to Fisher and he Instructed them and also sent out the report that the Indian committed suicide. Tho remaining Indians, however, finally found out that he had been killed and are becoming very warlike. The people are coining in for fear the Indians will murder ail the w bite people. This morning the stage was fired upon by the Indians, and this afternoon a posse of citizens started for tbe agency, all heavily armed, It being found that Agent Fishers life Is lu danger. A detachment of state militia is located at the place, and they have been instructed to held themselves in readiness for Immediate movement. It will lc remembered that a rumor was started la January that trouble was brewing. Governor Willey became very much frightened, and ordered Adjutant General Curtis to th frout, but fonnd no uneasiness among the Indians, lie now thinks it Is the same kind of trouble. In this he is evidently mistaken. There are grave fears that there w ill be much bloodshed. The posse w 111 hardly reach tho agency until late, as It Is twenty miles eff the railroad. A Coalition Against Pauis, April 14. H Is announced today that tbe German Government lias decided to conclude commercial treaties with Belgium, Switzerland and Italy, in addition to the commercial treaty now in progress between Germany and Australia.
