There were present of the Board President Aird and Trustees Alexander, Witles and Hieken. After the preliminary routine work had been disposed of several bills were presented and allowed. A hill from Wasatch county for seven month rcut was referred back for correction because it did not state the time of the beginiug nor the ending of the seven months. A hill ef Joint Turner for lumber contained a mistake and and was ordered returned for correction. Mr. Aird stated that there was a matter of huslues lie w islied to bring before the meeting In relation to certain lands lying just nortliwcst of the town. The water te irrigate these lands lias formerly been brought down the town ditch aud the owner Mr. Broadliead, complains that no provision has been made whereby he can receive his amouut of water there is ne water ticket for him. He further said that the claimcnt was willing to make an Independent ditch and bring tlie water down the north street of town provided the Town Board weuid put lu a flume across the big creek near E. I). Clydes residence. The matter led to quite a discussion but was settled by having it referred to a committee to investigate with power to act. An assignment from Attorney Hayes to A. Hatch Co. for the forinera salary was then presented and the President explained that there was an order of the court demanding tke salary for the month of April. It appeara that the execution was serred prior to the tiling of the assignment and Mr. Aird was in favor of paying over the amount due, at tlie time the execution was served, to the court to satisfy the execution. This matter led to a long and spirited debate, Mr. Willes contending that if tiie money was turned ever, cither to satisfy the execution or the assignment it would involve tlie Board in a law suit. Finally Mr. Hieken moved to pay the amount which was due, when the execution was served, ever to satisfy the execution and unswervingly argued his aide ef tlie question. It was some time before he got a second to ids motion hut when Mr. Alexander had heard it mere freely dismissed he gave it a second aud the motion prevailed. At this time E. D. Clyde arose and stated that his business at the meeting was in relation to tlie Wasatch Canal. The eiiairman stated that tlie committee appointed to meet with the canal committee had not yet reported. Thereupon Mr. Hieken gave a verbal report In w hicli lie stated that the committee had met with tlie canal committee and concluded li that the town was entitled to of the canal water aud should pay the He same proportion of tlie also said that tlie secretary of the canal company was to make out an agreement to be sigued by both parties. Mr. Wliics thought the agreement should be drawn np Immediately because the canal company is so changeable that it is like dealing with ciiildred. He understood that formerly the town had new it is later it was cut to h and probably by anethcr year it will ba cut 25 per cent. lower. Mr. Clyde took occasion to state that tills was not true. The town was thrown into a furor of excitement just before neon today when a man on horseback and breathless with excitement dashed in and asked for the Marshal. A reporter took the hint and started ont to gather what facts were obtainable. At the residence of Homer Fraughton he found that gentleman and Marshal Witt armed with rifles and just mounting their horses to take up the trail. He could get bnt little information from them but subsequently learned that Tex, a man who is well acquainted in these parts, and two companions had been chased to this valley after they had stolen several horses. Two men came to Heber late last night and left early this morning in company with Sheriff Jones. The man who came rushing in, as stated above, was one of that party who bad been dispatched for assistance as the thieves had been sighted and Jones and one of the strangers were In hot pursuit. At last accounts the officers were within a few hundred yards of the renegades and as Tex has sworn to kill Sheriff Jones on sight there may be trouble before they are taken.
