The dull boy in the class unexpectedly distinguished himself in a recent history examination. The question ran, "How and when was slavery introduced into America?" To this he replied: "No women had come over to the early Virginia colony. The planters wanted wives to help with the work. In 1619 thq London company sent over a shipload of girls. The planters gladly married them, and slavery was introduced into America." Ex. Many handkerchiefs are moistened by expected sorrows that never come. FAREWELL PARTIES TENDERED MIS- BURROWS, RH EES, AND WOTHER-SPOON LEAVE FOR SOUTHERN STATES. Last Friday evening was the date for the holding of three farewell parties for three graduates of Weber or for three members of the class of '17. It seems a rather remarkable coincidence that these three classmates should be called the same date, each living in a different ward, and each being sent into the same mission-field. They form a trio of workers who are anxious and willing to give their time, labor and money to make the world safe for Christ which will follow soon after "the world is made safe for democracy." These three men leave feeling grateful for their "VVeber training and expect to make good use of it. The farewell parties given the different departing missionaries were all of a high-class nature and were but natural proof of the popularity of all three. Mr. Burrows' farewell was held in the Huntsville ward and was attended by a crowd that could hardly get in the meeting house. A fitting program and dance was carried out find during the evening, "Alma" had time to tell his former classmates regarding some of his Wright exploits during his school-days. Mr. Burrows was attending school at the University of Utah when he Excepted his call. Leland Rhees' farewell was held the same evening in the Pleasant View meeting house. A well arranged program, together with a good dance and "Red's" farewell speech featured the evening's entertainment. Like the ether two parties the crowd was so large that the accommodations were of a dwarf kind. Classmates were also in attendance at this dance and found "Red" as "care-free" as ever. Briant Wotherspoon's party was held in the Third ward meeting house. The two other large crowds did not seem to detract from the attendance at this party, for it was also a big success. Former classmates were also in attendance here. In fact, it seemed as I ho every member of class '17 was to one of the three dances. In leaving the trio carry with them fie best wishes of all their friends and say they are going to boost Weber at all times. They leave November 14. Jerry is on the Job!
