W. Seegmiller, Republican, Delivers Splendid Message The student body had the pleasure of listening to a splendid address from W. W. Seegmiller, Republican candidate for Governor of Utah, in Devotional on September 18th. Mr. Seegmiller was accompanied by Mrs. Seegmiller, County Chairman George H. Lowe, and Mrs. D. R. Wheelwright, candidate for the state legislature. Chairman Lowe introduced the speaker and pledged the support of Weber County Republicans to Weber College when he said: "I want to tell you this, as far as the Republican organization of Weber County is concerned, that Weber College will be in Ogden and will be Weber College long enough so that your children's children will be here after a while. We know the good work that Weber College has been doing, we know the good work that it is doing and we are going to keep in Ogden that same kind of work. Weber College is here and must stay here, and will." Mrs. Wheelwright, candidate for the state legislature, said that she was very pleased to have been a student of Weber College and that she should always try to remember the good things she had learned at Weber and should attempt to put those principles into practice in whatever she did in life and especially in the position which is now confronting her.' Candidate Secgmiller's words follow:"I am glad to see such an attendance as you have here which of course indicates the importance of this institution. I once read a definition of education by an author which I admire very much. This is his definition and ever since reading it it has been my definition. 'Education is the ability to distinguish between truth and error and the courage to adopt the truth and discard error.' I think that is true education no matter what line we may pursue it. Furthermore our very benign coeds promise us action on the closing day of the content in clanking sabers (safety razors) over the "fatted calves." More skill to yuh, gals! BEARDED CONTEST RULES 1. The President and Faculty's Reception, held last Friday in the Berthana Ballroom, was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Weber's second dancing party went over with the pep and enthusiasm that has characterized all of our student activities thus far. The credit for putting over this commendable party is due to the commendable party is clue in a large measure to the splendid way in which it was handled by Dee Bram-well, and his committee members. Presented at intermission was a short and ' delightful program. Il included a piano solo, "Polonaise" (by MacDowell) by Frank Rounds, and a Spanish dance number by Margaret Johnson. From the list of many that were requested, the orchestra played some especially good dance numbers. It was impossible, however, to play all of the requests that were made. Immediately afterward many of those who were present at the dance enjoyed refreshments at Keeley's Cafe. Yes! Everyone had a good time but Bill Demick, who couldn't find the girl he came with. Weber-Frosh The Indian Yearlings from Sal t Lake carried their war-whoop to success by trouncing our Weber eleven 14-6 in a sizzling game full of fast line smashing attacks, end circling, ball toting, bone-crushing tackling, aerial assault, and all that makes football glamorous. With the Frosh backs hammering the Wildcat forward wall time and again they worked the pigskin to the one-yard line from whence it was carried over and converted for the initial 7 points. Weber Tallies Playing on even terms and fighting hard the Weberites uncorked an aerial attack in the third quarter with Fowler and Chandler on the reception committee. This drive tallied a touchdown for the Purple and White, but the conversion failed leaving the Utes in possession of a one point lead. Weber's line pounded viciously the attacks of the Lakers and took the oval away from them when the goal was threatened again. At this point "Educated Toe" Van Dyke lifted a high twisting spiral into the waitinrr arms of Larson of the Utes who returned the com pliment by racing through a brok en field, side-stepping and spring ing ior a distance ot 4; yards and the second Frosh score. The blocking of his team mates on this jaunt was superb to watch. The score was increased to 14-6 when an other pretty place kick cleared the standard.
