MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT Eactilty Advisor Lucy Itnni''' Student Advisor Ernest Newey Student Advisor Howard Stephens Typist Marjorie Wood INTRAMURAL SPORTS THOSE WHO KNOCK Lvery student body, unfortunately, has its quota of those who knock. We refer to those who arise in public places to call us the "sleepiest student body" and tell us our school spirit is "rotten." It may be that these students wish merely to emphasize their own alertness and agressive spirit. In that case we should try to overlook their egoism. But if they honestly believe what they say they should elaborate their state ments. The Herald had not known that our school spirit was "rotten." Such information should have been confided earlier by those who, having been here three years, are evidently in a position to judge. In fact ive had been impressed by the interest and participation in all our activities. Does it show lack of school spirit whsn as a body we sell enough tickets to bring an oppos -ing football team three thousand miles; when we uphold our reputation in debating as the out standing junior college of the west; when we support an extensive intramural and interschool athletic progam; when we sponsor a dance every week; when we make worth-while our daily as-sembl ies? Those who maintain our school spirit is "rotten" are hereby challenged to name one activity our student body has failed to support. The leader of our athletic department are to be greatly commended on the intramural sport program which reached its climax in the inter-class contests of January 2-5. These contests probably do more to foster school spirit and student body unity than any other one thing. Because of a lack of proper gymnasium facilities and a lack of available instructors to conduct the events, Weber college has never before conducted a worth-while intramural progam. This year the athletic department has introduced intramural sports, beneficial to the student body as a whole and to the individual participants. We urge each student of Weber to participate. We promise they will find enjoyment, and after observing the average ability displayed we are surethat no one is too poor a player to take part in any event. NOTE BOX SERVES NEW PURPOSE We thank all those who are contributing news and opinions via the note box, especially the philanthropic soul who contributed Mr. Murdock's wallet. If this person will leave in the same place the money he removed, the Herald will come out next time with the pages fastenedtogether. THE PLAY CONTINUES The holidays are passed and we face now an unbroken twenty weeks of school. The first act of the play is completed, the curtain fallen. The second and third acts remain to be played. The actors are now acquainted; the introduction is finished; the ascending action is about to begin. Let us play our parts with vigor, determination to justify the efforts of those who are directing us. Let ui include in our drama the comedy, the eventual triumph and, yes, the romance, that are necessary to a good play. And, we might add, let's not miss any of our cues. THOUGHTS Fear not that thy life shall come to an end, but rather fear that it shall never have a beginning. Card in a 1 Newman Doubt whom you will, but never yourself. , Bovee I never make the mistake of arguing with people for whose opinions I have no respect. Gibbon |
