Hales has brought his track and field season at WSU to a successful conclusion. Although he placed fifth in the nation he still feels as though he came out on top. "It's so hard to describe tjie feeling you get after the race," Hales said, "I was floating. People say,'Well, you took fifth.' In track there are personal accomplishments, and so taking fifth in my mind is like I won. I moved up on Weber's top 10 lists, I achieved personal goals, I qualified for Olympic trials, so in my mind I took first." Comment on this story at wsusignpost.com. However, at BASICS we mandate that someone has a bachelor's degree in an affiliated field in order to do it." Paul Putnam, who oversees the marketing for BASICS, reiterated Pyle's feelings that their CrossFit program is safe. "Some people say, 'How can you go and get certified in a weekend?'" Putnam said. "That's the biggest beef with CrossFit, and I agree with it. What separates us from all the other ones is that we're bringing science into it." One of the things that sets the program at WSU apart from other similar programs across the nation is that BASICS offers a full range of programs, including an extensive physical therapy program. "We also are a physical therapy organization," Putnam said. "That's where sports medicine comes into it. If you have an injury, any student or faculty member can come Cell in and receive physical therapy at our facility. We take all insurance." Putnam explained in detail the full range of the BASICS physical therapy program. "There are two components to physical therapy," he said. "There's traditional therapy, which is getting pain and swelling down and getting range of motion back. Then, for a weekend warrior or someone who's very active in life, we have whatwe call a 'return to sport' program. We focus on getting an athlete back. Once we get the range of motion back, there is still a discrepancy from before. We go and work with that, so that when they get back into their sport they are able to come back much stronger. That's what we're known for, but we also added the CrossFit program." Putnam said that there isn't another program in the nation that offers such a full range of training programs. He said that anyone can do CrossFit, regardless of current physical ability. :•:• ; "Everyone at Weber State can look at our program and think, 'Well, what do I need?'" Putnam said. "If it's just basic ground level or a higher level, you can come in and do that." , .... The BASICS I' program also caters •"' to more elite athletes or marathon runners. "If you're an elite athlete or a marathoner, we have specific speed and agility training that we offer," Putnam said. "Then we have training for NFL players in the offseason who come and train with us. They come in to get their speed and agility up." The BASICS CrossFit training program is open! now in the Swenson Gym, Putnam and Pyle said that students and faculty members will receive a substantial discount to enroll in the CrossFit program. Those interested in the program can sign up for classes at the Swenson Gym. The flag is probably one of the most recognized symbols in America. Any replica of the flag that is produced must adhere to very specific measurements and even colors. For her, these things are not optional. "My leisure activities are more like 'must dos* in my life, " Hawkins said. "It's not really like a hobby that I enjoy doing, but something required for a healthy lifestyle." Hawkins said her true leisure activities are going to movies in the evenings, barbecuing and reading outside. After all is said and done, she spends a mere;3-5 hours per week on leisure. Though this seems like very little time devoted to fun, especially in comparison to some other WSU students, she said she does not let hei job at WSU get in the way of enjoying herself. "I have a job; I'm committed to my job," she said. "That's life." Many students might find it difficult to balance schoolwork with pleasure, but learning timemanagement skills can help them find the time for both relaxing and participating in healthy summer activities. "I truly believe everyone needs rejuvenating activities weekly, if not daily," Hawkins said. Comment on this story at wsusignpost.com. ASU pitcher Dallas Esobedo was the first freshman in 20 years to win the title-clinching game since 1990. She also struck out UF's Kelsey Burder to finish off the game. ASU became the fourth team ever to earn multiple championship titles. With all of the amazing accomplishments ASU has under its belt, I would be wondering how our very own Wildcats fared against the champions. Well, the answer to that is "not so well." The Wildcats lost 12-0 in five innings. Even iffffiFearly stages of the collegiate softball season, ASU stood out. ASU deserved to win the title. They have been fun to watch all year long. Any one person to ever compete against, ASU should feel honored. If that person is a Wildcat, she should feel proud that she lost to ASU by about the same point dif- ference as UF did in the championship game.
