Show Spring Thoirfest' around the corner The Weber State University Concert and Chamber choirs will perform in Choirfest on Monday, Feb. 13. Karsten Longhurst, a senior in the choral education department, wilt conduct the male members of the Concert Choir in "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" from Randall Thompson's "Frostiana." "Randall Thompson took a collection of Robert Frost's poems and put them to music and called it 'Frostiana,'" Longhurst said, "it's a snowy song for a winter choirfest. It feels like you're walking through the woods on a snowy evening with the snowflakes falling on your head." Conducting the choir is part of a requirement for the choral education major. To fulfill another graduation requirement, Longhurst will student-teach in a local school in the fall. Ashley Hansen, an undeclared freshman, is experiencing her first semester in the Concert Choir. "It's so much - holy cow, it's amazing," Hansen said. "It's so much better than high school." A wide variety of music will be presented in this concert '"I Never Saw a Moor' is my favorite song for this concert," Hansen said. The lyrics are taken from Emily Dickinson's poem. "A moor is a hill without any trees and everybody knows what it is, but they've never actually seen one," Hansen said.. "So the song is 'I've never seen it' and 'I never spoke with God' and that sort of thing." Track Page 7 The Signpost Friday, February 10, 2006 Lead scored 12 points, dominating her post defenders. She also notched four blocked shots. "I was feeling really good down there," Releford said, "tonight was a lot different than other nights. I was a lot more patient underneath and read the defender, feeling where she was from behind." As she and her teammates were told the results of the NAU game and the implications on the Big Sky standings, an ecstatic cheer was heard from the locker room. Releford said it's a great feeling to be number one. "It feels so good. It kind of gives you a sense of urgency also," Releford said. "We play NAU on Saturday and it's time to dominate - we have it right there in the palm of our hands and all we have to do is clench our fists and take it." Porter said she is excited about the ranking but knows the importance of continuing their strong play throughout the remainder of the schedule. "V-Day" is a time to celebrate women around the world. It. is also a time to become comfortable with a word that may not be a part of many people's everyday vocabulary. "What is this pejorative term we have for this word?" asked WSU Department of Performing Arts Marketing Director Caril Jennings, regarding the word "vagina". "None of us come into this world without it. Why should we be embarrassed? It's our entry into life. It shouldn't be a word that we're ashamed of." Pappas said that "V-Day" is a performance that men will enjoy too. Pappa said there are two reasons that men should attend the production of "The Vagina Monologues": because it is funny and because it is informative. This, and the fact that the Big Sky Conference Championships in Flagstaff, Arizona will be hosted by NAU, does not bode well for Blaisdell and the Lady Wildcats. Blaisdell acknowledged that it would be hard to beat out NAU for the conference title. "No team will touch them," he said. "It will be very difficult to be within 20-30 points of them this year." But all is not lost, given the winner-take-all format of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track Championships. Blaisdell admits that if they perform well, it may be possible for the Lady Wildcats to come away from Flagstaff with the conference crown.
