For Havili, this is not the way he saw his senior year at WSU. Havili has had his ups and downs through the past years, but was ready for some football. Havili had even transferred from Texas Tech University in order to play for McBride. Havili used to play for East High School in Salt Lake City a few years back and had every intention of walking onto the University of Utah's football team when McBride was still there. That didn't work out though" Havili and five others were convicted of afirebombing in retaliation for an apparent drive-by shooting in 1998 and served seven months in jail. Upon his release, the U of U told Havili he was not welcome there. Although McBride still wanted him, the university did not. Havili found his way to El Camino Junior College in California and eventually onto Texas Tech's football team. When he heard McBride signed with WSU, Havili contacted McBride about playing for him in Ogden. Most people do not get another chance, but McBride thought Havili deserved one.
