The new opportunity however did not make much of a difference for the Wildcats as they lost 3-1 to Portland State University. The first game of the match was fairly close until the end when Portland State pulled away to win it 30-24. In the second game Portland State controlled the pace steadily to win it 30-23. Too many errors plagued the Wildcats, never being able to mount a strong attack. The third game was back and forth throughout. The Wildcats managed to string some late runs over to win it 30-27 with a standing ovation and wildy raucas fans. The Wildcats never even came close in the fourth game. Portland State led throughout to win 30-21. Portland State senior outside hitter Jessica Brodie killed the 'Cats with a game-high 30 kills, hitting .271. Standing at 5-foot-6-inches, Brodie was a surprising stand out. WSU sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Bair led the Wildcats with 16 kills. It was only her second game of the season as she was out with injuries early in the season. She only hit a percentage of .082, showing that she isn't quite back to her normal play yet. By Jon McBride sports editor I The Signpost P H O T O BY M A T T CLASS ] Ilif .<ilC\m\T Weber State University quarterback Ian Pizarro, #11, is tackled while running the ball earlier in last week's game. That's the question Weber State University football players and fans have on their minds, anxious for the Wildcats'firstwin in tomorrow night's game against Southern Utah University. The main priority for WSU Head Coach Ron McBride and his assistants has been tofigureout how to produce some offense. The Wildcats, in their first two games of the season, have not scored a touchdown yet. "We weighted every rep of every practice by position, by individual," McBride said. He said his close attention to details this week is important, but the onus really falls on the players. Every one of the 11 offensive players on the field has a part to play. "The key is for all 11 to be on the same page," McBride said. "If all 11 are on the same page, the offense is gonna click and you're gonna move the ball and be efficient." McBride announced after practice yesterday a different quarterback will be calling the plays against the Thunderbirds. Senior quarterback Ian Pizarro will start the game on the sidelines, while Shawn Woods, also a senior, will take his place on the field. Pizarro and Woods shared time in the Wildcats' last game. Pizarro went 2-9 for 59 yards and Woods went 5-6 for 25 yards. Following that game, McBride said Pizarro has a stronger arm than Woods, but Woods is a better runner than Pizarro and very fundamentally sound. Along with the change in quarterback, the offensive line will also have a different look this week. The battle for playing time between tailbacks Adrian Conway and Trevyn Smith also continues. Smith came in for Conway last game and gained 81 yards.
