"The first time we did the motion capture, it was so slow," Elena Madsen said. Actors from Los Angeles recorded the voices for the characters and it was not fast enough for the actors to move to naturally. Microsoft had to re-record the voices and re-film some of the scenes the actors had created. Vandegrift also has a part in making sure the characters come to life the way they were envisioned. "There's always a bit of manipulation that I have to do with the data in order to sort of spring them into the characters that we created for the game," he said. "Amped 3" is not like most sports video games: The player gets to completely customize a character by costume, snowboard, bindings, etc. The character then interacts with the others according to the way the player sets its personality. This game allows the player to connect BELL TOWER • NOVEMBER 1, 2005 • 10 AM - 3 PM to other players all over the globe to compete for high scores. A soundtrack will also be included in the game. Potential players get to help select it by logging onto www.ampedsn owboarding.com to vote for their favorite band. The top 20 songs will make it onto the soundtrack. About 30 to 40 people were involved in the creative process of "Amped 3." Vandegrift said he was fortunate to have such talented actors with whom to work. Finally, after two years, the game is now complete and undergoing day and night testing before it is released on the market. Students can watch for the release of the Xbox 360 and "Amped 3" Nov. 22.
