Munn, who attended the conference for the first time last August, said he is most excited for students to be able to meet and interact. "When I think about the conference, I'm excited 10 see everyone there," Munn said. "School is so much more than academics. You have to meet new people and build relationships." Under Munn's leadership, a group of 25 WSU students have been meeting once a week since June to prepare for this conference. "Our biggest challenge as a committee was coming up with a theme," Munn said. "Our theme this year is geared around how as students, everything we do has an effect." The theme for this year's conference is "The Ripple Effect," which was proposed by committee member Jessica Brothers, the service project coordinator for Academy of Leadership. Brothers, a WSU sophomore, is currently working on organizing materials for conference attendees to make puppets for children in the Ukraine. Brothers plans on moving to Ukraine in January to teach English for six months and hopes to use the puppets as a learning tool for those she will be teaching. "They have no toys and playing with puppets is an opportunity for them to have fun and interact," Brothers said. While at the conference. Brothers also hopes to have attendees write motivational letters to encourage young students to read. She is currently seeking book donations and hopes to give the books and motivational letters to elementary schools in the Ogden City area. "We want to make a local impact, as well as make a difference somewhere else, too," Brothers said. WSU sophomore Peter Owen, the Academy of Leadership committee member in charge of registration and check-in, said he is really excited to see how the groups represent themselves throughout the "Who is government and at what point does government become the overseer of what people can do or the taxpayers or the citizens' having the right to continuedfromfront In addition to the new room upstairs, a room in the basement has been converted into a classroom.
