Show Wednesday, March 29, 2000 THE SIGNPOST Page 13 Truman continued from page 12 the MGH (Most Gelled Hair) award? Another quick one: Is a gallon of gas or hair gel more expensive in Florida? Bald isn't always beautiful It happened somewhere between New Jersey and Salt Lake City on or near March 19 through 21. The Mailman went postal, giving in to teammates Olden Polynice and Bryon Russell's wishes. He shaved his head (and then polished it so much that you can now see your reflection in it but that's a another story). It turns out Russell and Polynice have been ribbing Malone to do it all season because of Malone's constantly receding hairline (apparently, not even being a spokesman for Rogaine helped the two-time MVP in that area). From the Please-Don't-Happen Dept.: Polynice said hisbald-is-beautiful campaign is still in full effect. He said he's now turning his efforts toward the rest of Utah's starting lineup. Let's hope that turns out to be as successful as his free-throw shooting. Hey, free throws aren't easy! In the third quarter of Monday night's 113-105 loss to the Mavericks, Polynice' s free throw deficiency was being exploited by Mavs coach Don Nelson. Nelson put little-used guard Damon Jones into the lineup to intentionally foul Polynice each time the Jazz inbounded the ball. The result? Polynice went1-for-4 from the line before Jerry Sloan wasted a timeout to yank him from play for the rest of the game. Today's lesson kids? Practice your freebies, or no play for you. In case you cared, Jones played a total of one minute. Ignoring NBA unwritten rules, he failed to get a shot up. Clinging more awards Some things are just known. Charles dinger can jump high. This is one of those things. Last weekend, Clinger leaped 7 feet. 6 12 inches at the Stanford Invitational. The jump was the best ever in the Big Sky. It was dinger's best by a half inch, and the best outdoor leap in 2000 by any college athlete. Think about it. That's like jumping over Mavs center Shawn Bradley. The NCAA uses bars, though, because they won't move out of the way. Say what? WSU women's tennis player Lenka Zacharova was named Big Sky Player of the week for the second time last week. Zacharova is from Bratislava, Slovakia. I'm just glad I'm typing all this. All aired-out In the next few years, you'll be seeing less of Michael Jordan. Less shoes, less underwear, less cologne, less batteries, less long distance, less hot dogs. ..pretty much less of everything.America's most used pitch man says he's moving out of the advertising world and onto bigger and better things, like ownership of anything this side of the Washington Wizards. MJ is still under contract with many companies and said he plans to honor those contracts. He did say, however, that he won't make any new commercials, unless it's for a company he owns. Then again, maybe we'll be seeing more of MJ in the next few years.
