Show Wednesday, September 15, 1999 THE SIGNPOST Page 3 Changes continued from front cent on student activities. In the past much more time was required for student activities. Hurst explained that programs such as the Association of Registered Organizations, Campus Activities Board and Volunteer Involvement Program was overseen by the executive vice president, but will now reside solely under student activities. Rochele Barker, this year"s WSUSA executive vice president, said, "It was difficult at first because people didn't understand the division or know which programs people were responsible for, but it's getting much better. The different changes have been implemented as we went along." According to Hansen, dividing the two makes managing the programs easier and demands more accountabil ity on the part of our student government.Attending meetings, concentrating on improving programs and events, and juggling academic schedules should be as much of a challenge, Hansen said. Hurst, also affected by the division, is no longer an adviser to student officers."Now we have more quality time to spend in our areas, and that is beneficial to WSU and the students," Hurst said. Hansen agrees with the philosophy. "Another reason for the division was to clarify and define everyone's positions a little better," Hansen said. "We are headed in the right direction and it's for the betterment of Weber State University. I like the change." "Picking one may be more important for practice reasons than game reasons because if you try to split time in practice neither one of them gets those extra turns to learn things better and to work on more technique-type stuff," Sollars said. One thing Sollars wanted to make clear is that he doesn't want Cooper looking over his shoulder, but he also said he won't hesitate to pull Cooper and put Harris in if Cooper is having a bad game. "I don't want Cooper going into the game thinking, 'OK, I make one mistake and I'm gone,'" Sollars said. "But Cole also understands if he's having a poor game and we're not doing anything as a team then that change will be made," he " don't want Cooper going into the game thinking, 'OK, I make one mistake and I'm gone.'" j.D. Sollars, offensive coordinator quaterbacks coach added. Cooper is getting a shot at the position he stroveto have when he originally signed with WSU back in 1993. . After serving a two-year LDS mission in Chile, Cooper transferred to Ricks College, where the Vikings went 21-2 before Cooper resigned with WSU in the spring of 1999. Graybeal, for one, is glad his team has a starting quarterback in place for Saturday's conference opener against the Bengals -- not really for himself, he said, but for his players. "I don't have to go out on the field and play," Graybeal said. "But from a mindset for the whole team, yes, I think we are looking for some direction in that position, and now we have that." fcenge with the change was making sure people understand it. "I don't want people to get lost," Foster said. Everyone who was previously involved is still involved in the various committees. The new committee's focus is to involve everyone without segregating the traditional and nontraditional groups. "It's a different look," Foster said. Upcoming activities sponsored by the board include Wildcat Weekend, the Homecoming Ball, College Bowl, Fantasy Star Wars and many other events.
