Everts news writer-Signpost Weber State University business and technology students blew competition away, taking several first-place honors at the Phi Beta Lambda Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. competition. Going in with a four-year legacy of placing first in state and national competitions, WSU swept several categories. The Utah State Competition was held on April 4 and 5. "I think it's the curriculum and great programs we offer," Alden Talbot, WSU's Phi Beta Lambda advisor said. "We are one of only a few schools in the western United States offering a bachelor's degree in telecommunications."State champions for this year's competition include Roxanne Brown of Clearfield, who placed first in telecommunications and Mark Ellis of Plain City, who placed second. Overall, WSU students won 36 awards at the two-day event, including two championship titles in the Mr. and Ms. Future Business Teacher category. Allison Cook of Salt Lake City was named Ms. Future Business Teacher, whilePaul Ecelbarger of Ogden was selected as Mr. Future Business Teacher. "This is one of the most impressive events in the competition because it requires a comprehensive knowledge of the subject," Talbot said. Other top awards went to Steve Evans and Christopher Hince both of Ogden, Barbara Haslam of West Bountiful and Curtis Tate of Roy. Students who placed first or second in the competition have the opportunity to attend the national competition held in Anaheim, Calif. July 5-18. everyone has an opinion... use it!
