Show r Or o DnimiKOini Sir tinns4 VIEWPOINT Consider a new image for Weber, then take action Weber State University is in the process of getting a facelift. This new operation has brought with it differing opinions as to whether the change will be beneficial to the university. The Signpost would like to highlight a few of the proposed changes associated with the new logo. The changes come in the form of a new design for the seal, primary mark and athletic logos. The proposal includes combining these into a standard identifier by which WSU will be known. Consider the follow ing: The campus will be more unified and more recognizable to the communi ty . The Coca- " """ Cola Company has realized the benefits of consistency in the representation of their products. Its logo is recognized, unifying its products and services. Currently, there are many different logos used to promote WSU, such as the flying W, the bell tower and the round seal. The proposal would provide for one identity from business cards to tee shirts. Simplification will help in the printing process of all materials associated with the university. One logo means one template for printing, which will ultimately simplify the printing process while lowering costs. The new mark should emulate the pride we as faculty, staff and students feel for Weber State. We also need to consider that a new identity has with it possible downsides. Consider the vast amount of paper materials with the current logos. These will all need to be reprinted. Steps should be taken to avoid unnecessary waste of these products, including reordering in smaller amounts until the new logo is determined. One proposal involves a two-color logo. This would require two press runs, higher printing costs and longer order time. The Signpost asks each faculty, staff and student to become aware of the proposed makeover, and to voice your opinion.
