Proceeds from the Roots-Fest will initiate the Moab Youth Center. The Moab RootsFest takes place May 28 and 29. Children under 12 are admitted free, and child oriented activities will be provided. A large reservoir is accessible a half mile from the stage to cool down in the hot desert sun. Vendors will be selling sustenance t-shirts and crafts. Concert goers are allowed to bring all but alcohol and firearms onto the 280-acre festival grounds. Small folding chairs are allowed in the stage viewingarea but no lounge chairs. Water and sanitary facilities are provided to augment the $1 per head walk -in campground at the festival sight. Knight, w inner of the Stravinsky Prize at the 1986 International Stravinsky Awards, and the Utah Symphony will perform Mozart's "21st Piano Concerto" and Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" to raise funds for Cecile Pelous' association, Action Autonomic Avenir. Knight's advanced musical trainingbeganat the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied piano with Paul Hershand Nathan Schwartz. Fie graduated at the age of 19. Further studies took him to the Cleveland Institute of Music and lessons with Eunice Podis and Paul Schenly. He won the Arthur Loesser award upon graduation, receiving both a master's and doctorate degree at the age of 22. An enthusiast for the great performers of the past, Knight has joined the critical staff of the Absolute Sound magazine and writes a column devoted to historical recordings and the recognition of the great performing artists of the first half of the century. Knight has recorded several solo albums, including works by Beethoven, Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Ginastera, Chopin and Gershwin. Her current project, Asha Ashram (House of Hope), provides relief support to 75 children in Nepal. Her association has established poultry and egg production, fish ponds and clean"water systems in key villages in order to improve the lives in those communities and teach surrounding villages what can be done.
