Finalists for Crystal Crest announced Five finalists for each of the 12 Crystal Crest catagories were decided by the selection committee on Friday. According to Cherrie Brown, ASWSU executive vice president, the selection committee, which consists of faculty, staff, and students takes two to three weeks to decide the five finalists and then another two weeks to decide the winners. "It is such an honor to be nominated," said Brown. The candidates are judged on specific criteria depending on the categories they are nominated for, she said. The criteria includes school and community involvement, grades, community volunteer work, and achievements in school. Brown said that for the first time, the finalists for the Master Teacher category will be evaluated while teaching. The finalists for the Wildcat Achievement category are judged on something they've had to overcome and achieve no matter what the circumstances. "They've tried to make something of their life," she said. The Crystal Crest winners will be announced at the banquet on June 1. "It is a very elegant program," Brown said. There will be prominent guest presenters including Michelle King, KUTV anchor-woman, as master of ceremonies. Entertainment will be provided by an imitation Beattles' band.
