Christopher James Contributing Writer The Weber State men's track team ran past their four opponents en route to a convincing win at the Wildcat Track and Field Invitational Saturday at Wildcat Stadium. Despite competing with many of his distance runners, WSC coach Chick Hislop got strong performances from his hurdlers and short-distance runners to score 78 points. Runner-up Utah scored 58 points, followed by Utah State with 43, B.Y.U. with 36, andS.U.S.C. with 13. Later McAlmont beat Chowen in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, but Chowen was able to break his own school record in that race. "That was one of my best races ever," said Chowen of his 110-meter race. "McAlmont is phenomenal." He joined the church at seventeen. He served a mission to the Australia-West mission. John had one of the No. 1 songs on radio stations throughout Utah, "What if I Loved You?". He was the front act for the Kenny Loggins concert at the Marriot Center. John first became interested in music at the age of 17. He served as institute president and young adult stake chairman while he attended Mesa College in San Diego. "I think I am starting to peak. I have been working hard on the javelin, and hopefully I'll get better," said Okelberry. "Teri is just that close to qualifying for nationals." said Blaisdell. "She's throwing real well early in the season." Okelberry also won the 400-meter hurdles, then finished third in the 100-meter hurdles. Okelberry also ran legs on the winning 400- and 1600-meter relays. Both relay teams took first. McCombs also put together an outstanding individual performance winning the 200-meter dash, and placing second in three other events. Teammate Ronda Green beat McCombs by less than 310's of a second to win the 100-meter dash, McCombs also finished second in the long and triple jumps. She also ran legs on the winning 400 and 1600-meter relays. Kelly Davis also turned in a double effort, winning the 400 and 800-meter runs. Also Shauna Turner broke her own school record in the discus, with a throw of 136-8. Michelle Green, running her first race in 2 months after suffering a stress fracture, placed second in the 3,000-meters.
