Show Original Batman to speak at WSC The Signpost - Wednesday, May 24, 1989 3 Adam West, the man who played "Batman" for the late 1960's television show, will speak Thursday. West will speak as part of the Convocation lecture series will speak at the Austad Auditorium of the Browning Center for the Performing Arts. West is best know for his role as Batman but also starred as Robert Taylor's co-star in 'The Detectives." Motion pictures to his credit include "The Young Philadelphians" (1959), "Geronimo" (1962), "Soldier in the Rain" (1963), "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" (1964), "The Girl Who Knew Too Much" (1959), "The Specialist" (1975), "Hooper" (1978), and others GYM (cont'd from front page) The ground was broken in August of 1988 and is scheduled to be "open for business" to a regular student body in the fall quarter of 1990. Wilden said the builders are right on schedule and they don't foresee any problems along the way. Funding is also "locked in" for the completion of the structure. In 1987 the state legislature allowed the funding of the 6.5 million dollar project. Weber College students will have a state of the art facility in which to learn because of the completion of this project. The new gym will include a 220 meter indoor running track for recreational use alone. This will not be used for competition. Inside the middle of the track there will be three full size basketball courts and weight training facilities. Another feature of the building is the addition of six racquetball courts which will be located in the section that connects the Swenson Gym with the new gym. In this same sector there will also be a human performance laboratory. This will be fully equipped with the latest in physical testing devises. There will also be a dance floor to work out on. Dr. Wilden stated that there will be no new offices for the professors and that a tremendous amount of teaching will take place in the area of human sciences. Again Wilden emphasized that the new building will not be just an empty shell because legislation funding allowed for extremely high-tech equipment. There will be no new locker room facilities or swimming pool area in this gym. This new gym plus the use of the old gym could maintain a student body of about 15,000.
