Just to fill you in, though: in part one I listed seven of the ten C.D.'s youll need in your music j." : : " " " V K " " K - K K V " V " t Presentation "Answers About Judaism" C.D.'s to impress your boss: Part II collection when having your boss over for a party. Incidentally, in case you remember that I only listed six C.D.'s rather than the seven I now said I did, you must remember that Sting's recording was actually & double-length volume. Give me a break. I'm tired, I want to go home and get my lousy editor off my back, and I just can't think of four more compact discs to write about. Honestly, this second installment has about as much allure as reading only the articles in the current Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, but then how exciting can it be when a cigar chomping boss just sat in your $1,500 Scandinavian couch and fused together the titanium springs and caribou leather. It could happen. At the end of part one, your boss had just finished dinner and quite a few drinks, that were "generously provided" and consumed by the boss. The omnipotent one casually walks over and checks out your CD. collection again and says, "Look at this... a symphony by one of those Russians who's last name ends with 'ski'." And that brings us to: 8. Modest Mussorgsky-Pictures at an Exhibition. Leonard Berstein and the NY Philharmonic, CBS records Great performances series. You may never play this album while you're throwing the Calvin and Hobbes ?IRST I FIGURED I'D TM THE DERKNS DAME. SUSIE AMD I NEVER WIT T OFF, ALTHOUGH OCCASIONAL WE HIT EACH OTHER. YORGASON (continued from page 5) important in our family," he said "We love each other but don't always see eye-to-eye musically. But we do agree on the significant things of life." One who may not see exactly eye-to-eye is his son, Jon Yorgason, who, incidentally, is the sports editor of The Signpost. As Yorgason, Jr., said of his dad, J party, but just having it will impress the big cheese with your vast musical taste and knowledge. The musical content of this symphony is so emotional it will make the hair on the back of your neck and elsewhere stand up. Listen to the movement, "Gates of Kiev" and youll understand exactly what I mean. One caution, memorize the inner jacket of this CD. and pick out your favorite movements for reference when your boss quizzes you on the merits of Mussorgsky as a composer. If you don't, youll wind-up having a critical music discussion with the equivalent of a drunken Roger Ebert. 9. Basia - Time and Tide. Epic records, 1988 Even though this album is a couple years old, the music is timeless. This album will become a classic because of its fine mix of pop, jazz and use of multi-continental sounds. Basia is widely acclaimed around the world, so her music will go over with almost any crowd. This CD. is exactly what you need to elevate the spirit of a party. Limbo low, dance or act like a goof-ball, you can do it all to her music. If your boss would like to participate in a limbo contest, it's a good idea to have high jumping uprights standards so that his large ego can pass under. Just as a side note, Basia's SUSIE HAD A FACE THAT SUGGESTED SOMEBODY UPSTMRS HAD A V1ERD SEHSE OF UUM0R, BUT I WASHT GOING TO HER. I learned to put up with jazz and classical music, even to the point that I almost like it." Though sports editor Yorgason may not be musically active, aside from his constant whistling and humming around the newspaper office, some of Yorgason's other children have been and are involved in Weber's new album will be available in stores next Tuesday. 10. Oingo Boingo- Boingo Alive. MCA records,1988 If you want everybody to have a great time at the party, this CD. is a must. The infectious rhythms of Oingo Boingo could probably even get middle management to dance. Dancing shouldn't be a main concern, 'cause everyone will be after such cuts as "Stay" and "Dead Mans Party." What you should worry about is making sure you still have this disc in your possession after the party's over. Guard this disc with your life! Your fellow party-goers will eye it like a hawk. Keep it from their pilfering fingers. Hide it and lock it up...just like all the important items at the office are. And that should do it. Run right out to your local record store and blow your latest paycheck on these fine musical selections, then sit back and enjoy. Your bank account might be poor, but it will sure add richness to your collection. By the way, once you've wowed your boss and he's hung around your house for several hours, eaten all your food and passed out in the dill pickle dip, sift through his pockets for any valuables, then call the neighbors over and have them help you throw his portly body out the door.
