Last year was really the first time it got kicked off. It was fun." This year's hike begins with registration between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Participants will meet at the trailhead of their choice, but should keep in mind their level of hiking experience, says Willden. Snowbasin's upper parking lot trailhead leads to the shorter (12.8 kilometer) and less difficult climb. Willden says that over the past few years 80 of hikers choose . this trail. But for the more experienced hiker, the longer (16.2 kilometer) and much more rigorous trail begins at the top of 26th and 27th at Taylor Canyon Trailhcads. Hiking on this trail will need to begin no later than 8 a.m. Wilden himself will start the hike earlier in order to post signs bearing maps and historical news clippings every half mile. The goal of the hike is to reach the summit by noon. Between noon and 2:00 p.m. a program will be held at The Saddle, 500 feet below the summit. The program will include traditional activities as well as drawings for hike prizes. Hikers may either head straight for The Saddle before reaching the summit or on their way down. Hikers will sign inout in a trail register book at each trailhead and at the summit before heading downhill at 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in participating in this year's event may contact Gary Willden, Hike Director, at 626-6470.
