Show 611 Signpost Tuesday, May 26, 1987 Ehrlin ends collegiate career Dave Allison Sports Editor Weber State number one singles player Jonas Ehrlin ended his college career at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tennis Championships last Wednesday in Athens, Ga. Ehrlin, a senior from Tranas, Sweden, and a two-time defending Big Sky Conference number one singles champion was eliminated by the eventual NCAA singles champion Andrew Burrow of the University of Miami. Burrow defeated Ehrlin in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, and went on to win the prestigious title on Sunday.Ehrlin's stay at Athens was short as he drew the highly-ranked Burrow in his first preliminary round match of the single elimination tournament, Burrow was the seventh seeded player in the NCAA. Weber State tennis coach Keith Cox accompanied Ehrlin to the NCAA championships and was impressed with the WSC star's effort. "The match was closer Father's Day is June 21. "Jonas played him (Burrow) as strong as anyone in the tournament." "You hate to lose, but if your going to lose, it might as well be to the tournament champion," said Cox. This was Ehrlin's third appearance at the NCAA tournament in which only the nation's top 64 players are invited to compete. Ehrlin ends his career with a four-year combined singles and doubles record at Weber State College of 159-59. He won four conference singles titles and two doubles titles while a member of four Big Sky championship teams. Ehrlin will remain at Weber State as an assistant coach with Cox next year.
