Show 8 Signpost Tuesday, April 26, 1983 Real Pit Bar-B-Que Weather discontinues tourney by Colleen Meurtng Sports Editor It's really nice to be able to compete in a tennis invitational, just as long as the weather holds out. but when the rain starts and you can't determine a winner, now that's not so nice. Such was the outcome of the women's tennis team, as they traveled to Boise to take part in the Boise State Invitational Tournament over the weekend. With Liz Rocca (no. 2 singles and no. 1 doubles) out of contention due to a shoulder problem, the Lady 'Cats still looked good after two days of play. On Thursday the Ladies won both of their matches, defeating Eastern Washington 8-1 and host school Boise State 6-3. But on Friday, the women split their matches, dropping their first match 6-3 against Montana State before shutting out Portland State 9-0. After the two days of action, Weber was tied for second place with Montana State, both of them having 3-1 records. Idaho State was undefeated and was to be the next school faced by the 'Cats on Saturday, but due to the weather conditions, no further games were held and no tournament winner was determined. "Tina Purser (who replaced Rocca) filled in very nicely," said Coach Keith Cox. "Liz has a shoulder problem and tennis has been aggravating it. We don't know what caused it or if she'll be able to compete in the conference championships." Coach Cox said that the team has been playing very well and that they are gaining confidence. The women will now play in the Mountain West Athletic Championships to be held May 6 and 7 at Moscow, Idaho. And in Moscow, the weather won't make a difference as they will be competing inside Idaho's Kibbie Dome. Wildcats 8, Eastern Washington 1 Sinyles No. 1 Marsha Isenberyer (EW) def.
