Show V Man of the Year: The male student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership, scholarship and personal integrity and has unselfishly applied thse talents to benefit the campus and community. Bruce Kichcson, a junior majoring in political science, has served this year as ASWSC president. He has served as ASWSC executive vice president and worked with the Bin Brothers program and Pi Kappa' Alpha fraternity. Talent of the Year: The individual who has refined herhis talents to a high degree of skill proficiency and, through energetic application of these abilities, has demonstrated preeminence in a specific arena of accomplishment ie: forensics, visual arts, performing arts, athletics, letters, etc.) 4f Gary (Tiny) Scriven, a junior majoring in accounting, has been involved in the Residence Hall Association and assisted the ASWSC vice president. He is a collegiate wrestler and this year became Weber State College's first Ail-American wrestler. n o o o o student Organization of the Year: The organization which has most significantly influenced the positive growth of its individual members, enhanced the campus and provided substantive contributions to the surrounding community in such a way as to represent the best Weber State students have to offer. o f o James M. Ashworth is a senior majoring in electronic engineering technology. He has served as executive assistant to the ASWSC executive vice president,Elections-chairman, and is a member of Sigma Gamma Chi fraternity. Richard (Rick S. Southwick is a junior majoring in English. He was ASWSC Academic vice-president in 1981-82, is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and is currently the student member of the Utah State Board of Regents. David M. Allen is currently serving as ASWSC academic vice president. He has won 28 trophies in forensics this year to date and his career total of nearly 100 trophies is a cummulative Weber State College record. He often assumes the role of playercoach with the debate squad. Cindy Stumph is a senior collegiate basketball player who helped the Lady Wildcats to their first 20-win season. She has received numerous conference honors and was one of the 30 finalist for the Wade Trophy which is awarded to the top female basketball player in the U.S. Weber State Chatonelles, advised by Marily Schiffman, is the college's drill unit. During the school year this group practices every weekday and many Saturday mornings at 6 a.m. in order to meet the multitude of requests for community performance and service projects in addition to their regular appearances at Weber State College athletic events. Choralition is directed by Ron Wooden with Rick Christensen serving as organization president. They have develped a great reputation for music excellence through a wide rante and large number of performances, including appearances at the Knoxville, Tenn. World's fair and with Barry Manilow at the Dee Events Center. ASWSC Cultural Committee chaired by Todd Booth has attempted to offer the Weber State Campus community a high quality of speakers and entertainers on a very limited budget. Concerts such as Lit- sCV The Steve Largent majors in political science and. has served this year as Signposteditor-in-chief. He has been a member of Senator Jake Garn's staff, a member of the WSC Faculty Senate, and ASWSC Academic Board Chairman in 1981-82. George T. Llrich is a junior accounting major. He has worked as LDSSA Good Times committee chairman, ASWSC elections chairman and ASWSC Leadership chairman. He is currently a resident assistant in Wasatch Hall. Nclladet Allen is an extremely gifted vocalist and performer. She has been involved in numerous college and community repertory productions in addition to being a member of the Weber State College Singers, Concert Choir and A Capella Choir. v Brian Wilson West is a junior with a theater artsEnglish composite major. He has starred or held feature roles in numerous campus and community theater productions and won the second ?lace award in the National Association of eachers of Music Singing Competition. tie River Band and Olivia Newton-John have combined with speakers such as Dr. William DeVries and John Dean to create a high quality but varied program. The Latter-Day Saint Student Association advised by jerry Baker and directed by president Mark Thayne, is the campus' largest student organization. Their committees have developed and implemented a wide ranging program, including service to the elderly and community as well as weekly social activies which are open to the entire campus. Sigma Gamma Chi Fraternity is advised by Ed Walker with Allen Taylor serving as chapter president, this organization has carried out a broad range f activites developed to enhance the six ideals of fraternity: brotherhood, service, spirituality, leadership, scholarship and patriotism. They have received the Spirit Award and the Campus Involvement Award. Theresc A. Nelson will graduate this year with a degree in English. She is a Fulbright Scholarship Award recipient and will spend the 1983-84 academic year in Finland. Leesa Moore is a senior music education major. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and won the outstanding freshman, sophomore and junior music major awards. She has been active in ASWSC, serving as a member of the Arts and Humanities Area Council. o nn w William P Miller, Friend of Students Award:The college staff member who no! only exemplifies outstanding professional qualities but has demonstrated an ability and willingness to expand beyond conventional expectations in an effort to enhance the quality of Weber State College student life. Darnel L. Haney is associate dean of students and has been directly involved in working with fraternities, sororities, the residence halls, Black Scholars United and the athletic department. He supervises enforcement of standards and discipline on campus. Judith N. Cole is a senior majoring in psycnoiogy. in addition to church involv- ment she has served on the South Oeden Community Council, the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers and a variety of other civic organizations. Roxanne Sot eras is a senior psychology major. She was a three-year team captain of the WSC varsity woman's tennis team and received the 1982 Scholar Athlete Award. She has been a resident assistant in Promontory Tower. t J Joan L. Wilcox is a junior English major. She has received several wnting awards and was the editor of the Signpost's Signature section and Metaphor, the campus literary magazine. She has served as vice president of the WSC Veterans Association. Dr. Leon H. Blake works at the Weber State College Counseling Center where he has been involved in the development and implementation of numerous special counseling programs. He is an avid supporter of extra-curricular activities. Barbara Hcnrie works in the office administrationbusiness education department as the lab assistant. She works with hundreds of students each quarter. She is extensively involved with Phi Beta Lambda, and is a member of the Faculty Women's Association. Cheryl Marie Hansen is a FrenchSpanish major and will graduate this SDrinc after attending WSC for onlv thrpp years. She was president of the Cercle Francais", and is a member of the WSC Scholastic Society and Phi Kappa Phi Na tional Honor Society. Patricia Bidlack Spence is a BGS major and will graduate this year. She has accumulated 1,000 hours in Sub for Santa, served for over 10 years in the Civii Defense Organization, has been an active member of a local PTA and chnrch organizations. Lisa Wright is a senior communications major. She has been the sports editor and managing editor of the Signpost and will be the editor-in-chief for the 1983-84 school year. She has participated in numerous church and community ac- Carolyn Deru is a secretary ip the school of arts and humanities. She has provided great assistance to students in making serious academic decisions and has voluntarily worked as the Weber State College Rodeo Club advisor, a very demanding and time consuming responsibility. Mary Jo LaTulippe is a counselor in the Women's Educational Resource Center at Weber State. She coordinates the weekly Brown Bagger series and has produced numerous specialized workshops for returning women and married students with families. |
