Show B2 Signpost Wednesday, June 2, 1983 Intramural banquet gives awards The Intramural Awards Banquet was held on May 25 on the north lawn outside of the gym. After a nice dinner of roast beef, salads and dessert, the following champions received trophies for their year-round participation in intramurals: All Sports Champions Beta; Individual Champions (for men and women) Ken Anderson and Corrine Burningham. All-Around Champions Senior Pete Long (ROTC) and Patti Patterson; Junior Tom Campbell (Beta) and Janet Bune; Sophomore Bill Boschetto (Beta) and Christy Gleave; Freshman Curtis Breitweiser (TKA) and Cherie Carpenter. Outstanding Official Norm Nava. Throughout the year participants have been receiving certain points for their involvement in the intramural program. With the individual accumulation of points, all-around athletes were then selected. "The Intramural Banquet is one way to recognize the participants in the program," said John Knight, WSC recreation director. The Intramural Office would like to thank everyone who participated in the sporting activities this year and who helped to make this year such an outstanding one. The intramural department will be sponsoring activities during the summer quarter also. The events will not include individual points for the performers. All those interested should contact the intramural office at 626-6476. Clark and Vegwert return from NCAA by Barry Kawa Sports Reporter As the late comedian Joe. E. Lewis once said, "Give me a golf course, the fresh air and a beautiful woman and you can keep the golf course and the fresh air." WSC golfers Kerri Clark and Lori Vegwert echoed this sentiment last week in the NCAA women's golf championships held in Athens, Georgia, as scores were high and the golf course played tough. Clark, the No. 1 ranked Division II golfer in the country, shot rounds of 78-77-79-77-311 to finish around 40th in the tourney held over the par-74 6,044 yards long University of Georgia golf course. Vegwert, a former Ail-American, posted rounds of 79-83-91-75-328 to finish in the top 80 out of the 102 player field. Vegwert's third round 91 was the result of a nine on a par-five hole and an eight on a par-three hole. "It was just one of those things," said Vegwert. "I hit a couple of bad shots into impossible spots. It got me very discouraged but I guess I got paid back with my 75 in the last round." Clark won the pre-tourney long drive contest with a wallop of 269 12 yards in the sea-level Georgia air. The distance on the drive is remarkable considering that a drive travels approximately 10 percent shorter in Georgia than in the high altitude air in Utah. Clark also represented the west region in an informal pre-tournament match as they beat the east squad 4-3 in best-ball matches.
