Show Signpost Wednesday June 2, 1983 A9 Study in England spring quarter Imagine touring the historical sights of England and Ireland during spring quarter next year instead of sitting in class at Weber State, day-dreaming of far-away shores. As many as 60 students will have the chance to visit Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle, while living and studying in London. Anyone who is registerd for WSC classes is eligible to be considered for the tour. Information can be obtained at a meeting to be held June 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Browning Center choral room. Four professors have been chosen by the foreign study committee to teach the classes specially designed for .study in England. They are: Dr. Thomas Burton, English; Dr. Michael Toth, sociology; Dr. Ronald Wooden, music; and Dr. Lee Sather, history. - "Charismatic Leadership," taught by Dr. Toth, will describe the rise of two European leaders, Churchill and Hitler. "Great Epochs of English Music from 1825-1940" will interest music students and "Masterpieces of English Literature" will round the education of every student interested in great literature. The other classes being offered are all being coordinated to embrace the culture of England, past and present. Classes will be held on a flexible schedule from Monday through Thursday. The rest of the week will be spent touring. There are outstanding opportunities to view great works of art and hear concerts performed in world famous music halls and cathedrals. As a special highlight, students involved in the music program will have the chance to perform as a chamber choir, possibly even in St. Paul's Cathedral, the world's second-largest Christian church. The tentative travel-study dates are March 17 Master's offered Of the 2031 graduates at WSC in 1983, 36 will graduate with a Master's degree in education. It is a little known fact that Weber State has graduated over 200 students with a Master's degree in either elementary or secondary education since 1979 when the first two students completed their M.Ed, degrees. The typical candidate for the degree is a teacher with several years of teaching experience, returning for additional training, intellectual growth and stimulation and professional development. These students, because they teach in elementary and secondary schools during the day, are only on campus for late afternoon and night classes. But any given quarter, over 175 students are enrolled in 'graduate classes, many of whom are former Webvr States graduates in education, the social sciences, math or natural sciences. through May 12. The travel committee hopes to be able to limit the cost to $1900 per student, which includes transportation, lodging in hostels, and possibly some meals. Payment of tuition is not included in this amount. Interested students should begin planning now for next spring quarter. The experiences gained through living in another country are priceless, and this program is a great opportunity to broaden anyone's horizons. mm Ufa (MimMb tMmnm mm 03) oaSD m Atons 00 WS rasa 4S 0GEO We're making student loans!
