Show - May 1, 1979 Signpost rage 3 Founders Day lauds Johnson Tenth .annual Weber State College Founders Day banquet will be held noon May 4 in the WSC Union Building Ballroom, Alan Hall, alumni association executive director said. Fo'und-ders Day cemmorates the founding of WSC Jan. 7, 1889, is sponsored by the WSC Alumni Association. Dr. Rodney H. Brady, Weber State president, will be keynote speaker. Dr. Clair W. Johnson, professor emeritus of music, will receive the prestigious H. Aldous Sixon award given annually to a member of the campus community who has distinguished himself for outstanding service to the students at WSC, Hall said, Johnson was for many years director of bands at WSC, and also service as music department chairman. Previously he had been director of high school bands and a performer in bands and other musical organization. He also built a reputation as a composer and arranger of music. He came to Weber State in 1937 after receiving bachelor and master's degrees from Brigham Young University. Jle became professor emeritus of music in 1970 after 33 years on the WSC faculty Admission for the banquet is $4.25 and reservations should be received by May 14 Call the alumni office at 626-6564. Students prepare for art exhibition The annual Weber State College Student Art Exhibit in the Art Department Gallery will begin May 7, and end May 25. Any WSC student registered in an art class during the 1978-79 school year is eligible. Deadline for submission is May 3, from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. Judging for awards will be done May 7. A reception for winners will be held in the art gallery at noon May 8. Everyone is invited. Works from this show will be picked for the traveling show next year. Entitled, "The Ninth Annual Statewide College Student Traveling Exhibit," the show travels to all institutions of higher education in Utah during the '79-80 school vear. Presentations All media will be included in the exhibit : jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, oil-watercolor and acrylic paintings, drawings, prints, photography, textiles, and graphics. The works will be pre-juried by the art faculty. Each student may submit up to five pieces at .75 per piece, entry fee. Presentation guidelines: paintings should be framed; watercolors, photography, prints and drawings may be matted. Pieces framed with glass and clips only are not acceptable due Sierra Club sponsors backpacking clinic The Sierra Club is sponsoring a backpacking clinic May 3 at 7 p.m. at the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12 St. It will feature where to go in the area, health and safety on the trail, and will have a swap of tents, packs, sleeping bags, and equipment.
