Women's basketball player of the year Kathy Miller. Women's Softball player of the year Penny Wanberg. Outstanding Senior Woman athlete Kim Gianchetta. Female scholar athlete Kim Gianchetta. ( Tonight the actual and official winners will be named. ) You know, next year's athletic prospects for Weber State really look bright. The 'Cats should repeat as the champions of the Big Sky in three sports and improve in most of the other ones. This year has been Weber's best overall athletic year since 1970, but next year (1978-79) could be the best in the school's history. Here are my sport-by-sport predictions for next year: Cross Councty WSC will win its 2nd straight Big Sky title. Football WSC will improve into an undisputed third place. Wrestling WSC will finish second in the conference meet. Tennis WSC will end up the conference runnerup. Men's basketball the 'Cats will win thier second consecutive Big Sky Crown and go on as far as the NCAA Quarterfinals. Golf WSC will claim its eighth Big Sky Championship in eight years and go on to finish its best ever place in the NCAA tournament. Track and Field WSC will finish second in the conference. Women's volleyball The 'Cats will come in fourth place. Women's Basketball WSC will win the Intermountain Conference crown and have its best year ever. Women's Softball Weber will end up second place. Women's cross country and Track and Field WSC will add these two new sports and though the 'Cats won't be contenders, they will be representative of the school. All-Sports Weber State will win its second all sports trophy in a WEBER INTRAMURAL NEW The WSC Intramural Activities have finished for the year.
