Weber State's Bob Hill and Al Yardley started the ball rolling, as Hill added several feet to his season best to win the javelin and Yardley's 9:23.2 steeplechase set a new stadium record. A thrilling stretch run by Utah State quarter-miler Mark Enyeart, followed by a 9.4 100-yard dash by Boise State's Carl Bartell, set the stage for the feature race, an 880 matching BYU's 3:56.4 miler Paul Cum-mings with Weber State middle-distance star Dan Dean. The race was a classic from start to finish. Cummings started slowly but at the end of the first lap he moved up behind pace-setter Dean. Dean kept picking up the pace and 240 yards from home gave a surge that caught Cummings by surprise. Cummings gamely fought'back and appeared to have the race in hand when Dean gave a final surge in the home stretch that Cummings couldn't match. Dean won, 1:49.9 to 1:50.4, a two-second improvement for the Weber State Junior. BYU took team honors with IV2 points, followed byUtahState 57V2, Boise State 492, Utah 41, Weber State 38, Idaho State 8, Ricks 6 and College of Southern Idaho 5. A Wildcat baseball team wins 1 of 3 contests Weber State's baseball squad lost two tight games beforej closing a three-game series with Boise with a 9-3 win at Afleck Park Saturday. Weber win followed a 4-2 Boise State victory Friday and a 3-2 squeaker in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The 9-3 Weber State victory was a satisfying end to a bitter series. Before the win, the Wildcats had extended their recent slump to 12 games without a single win. The season record for Weber State is now 15-22. Rich Hunter banged in both Weber runs in the opener with a' solo homer in the third inning and a double with Andre Ellison on base in the seventh: His efforts were matched by Bronco Gary Allen's two-run homer in the top of the seventh which gave BSU all they needed to coast to the 4-2 final result. Saturday's Action Paul Levan held the Wildcat's to two runs on five hits in Saturday's opener as BSU walked away with a narrow 3-2 win. After leaving 18 runners on base in the first two games of the series, the 'Cats finally got a little traffic moving across home plate. Rush hour came in the third and fourth innings, as five and three runs scored in those innings, respectively. DAVE HOCH HAS been one of Weber State's leading hitters this season and is expected to see plenty of action today when the Wildcats travel to the University of Utah for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. WSC tennis team posts single win Three shutouts faced the Weber State tennis team in last week's action; but happily, the 'Cats managed to get the upper hand in one of them. Jack Nielson and Dave Riley were the top performers for the 'Cats. Weber State's tennis team hosts the big Sky Conference meet this weekend on the WSC courts and at the Mt.
