Show nov. 14, 1972 signpost page 7 SIX charact by carol fredlund staff writer A challenging,thought-provoking theatre production opens tonight in the Fine Arts Center Cellar Theatre. "Six Characters In Search of an Author" by Luigi Pirandello begins a five-night run under the direction of Robert Paul Ma-cek. Show time is 8 p.m. and admission is free. "Six Characters" is being produced as a laboratory pro duction with all work on the show being handled by the student cast, including design, publicity and building management. An open discussion with the director and the cast will follow each presentation of the play. The "Six Characters" company has worked under the philosophy that "laboratory production" means "learning experience." Director Macek has con- ers' opens fon; ght ducted renearsais in an lmpro-visational style in order to let each actor have the opportunity to experiment with character interpretations and acting styles. Briefly, the play is the story of an ordinary play rehearsal interrupted by six people who come into the theatre looking for an author -- any author. They claim to be characters created by an author who did not care to complete the drama of his own creation. Now they are looking for a stage on which to "play" their lives. "Six Characters In Search of an Author" may be interpreted on several levels: as a psychological problem play about a middle-class family; as a satire on the vanities and idiosyncra-cies of theatre people; as a conflict between truth and the illusion of truth; or as an agonizing, sometimes grotesque search for the nature of man. Featured roles in a large cast are played by Gary Bird, Nancy Kokes, Karen Brown, Timothy Scott Duncanson, Marsha Green and Rebecca Fleming. Stage manager duties are handled by Rhonda Miracle, with set and costume design by George R. Maxwell and lighting byKren Mae Duncanson. The show will play tonight through Saturday. l . .i v Xc.
