The evening of Tuesday, October 19 was made memorable through the efforts of a good many people, not only those who participated in the production of THE WILD DUCK, but those who were responsible for the fine banquet in the Union Skyroom and the reception after the show. The list is a long one, but special mention should be made to Dr. T. Leonard Rowley, present Chairman of the Department of Theatre Arts, Vice-President Hofmann, Joe Malory, and Mrs. Maurice Richards, president of the Ogden Drama Club. Mr. Allred and his family were very much appreciative of the occasion, and we of the Theatre staff are deeply greatful that we could honor a man whose contribution to Weber State and to the community has been so important. Last year the Signpost ran an editorial anti Glen Curtis and thereby helped Dan Hunter win. Dan then appointed Brad Q. Post to the chairmanship of Ombudsman Committee. Brad in turn chooses the other members of the committee and sets the policy of Ombudsmen. Therefore, you as the Signpost have had a hand in the creation of the very menace you are complaining about. While there is nothing wrong with coming out in favor of a candidate, that candidate must be looked at carefully. For example; you mentioned that Glen had a "Political machine" while Dan then went about appointing Brad Post, who was his campaign manager, as Ombudsman chairman. Claudia Hamada, who is also a member of Ombudsman, campaigned for Dan Hunter and even had her name in the Signpost as a Note from Abravanel Dear Miss Young, Would you please convey to Mr. Jim Jastram my thanks for the .Signpost of Friday, October 8, with the fine photographs. I want also to thank you for your cooperation and your interest in serious music on your campus. Even Frank Hodge, who is above question in his ability and integrity, is a member of Ombudsman committee. This man was one who Dan Hunter said he wanted in the Senate. Frank lost his race but not his influence and received an appointment. The questions are these. One, how much influence, adverse and otherwise does the Signpost have on this school. Two, can it rectify mistakes that have been made. And three, are students represented on Ombudsman or is it entirely political appointments as it appears to be. One more question could be, can the student organizations correct themselves or does the administration have to do it in the final analysis. Sincerely Dennis W. Smith SAVE UP 2434 Dear Editor, Today a very controversial issue confronts the studentbody. This concerns the management, role, authority and functions of the Ombudsman and his committee. Many students, (most of whom support the committee,) are asking numerous and very relevant questions which are being ignored and or minimized. These questions deserve more attention from the Ombudsman, Brad Post or the Executive Cabinet. Students should have access to a list of members, a policy statement and any pertinent information which would achieve the purpose of crushing rumors and misinformation while preserving the confidentiality and privacy most cases deserve. It deserves a chance to grow and utilize the potential it has. It also deserves a budget worthy of it. However it is doomed to fail if better public relations are not established and greater access from students does not evolve. If the Executive Cabinet takes the advice I gave them November 1, many problems could be resolved. If something is not done, then "liberals" will fight it as an inaccessible private puppet of student government and "conservatives" will fight it for its progressive fight for student rights.
