The time when squigly red and black lines determine operating expenses. And like the other departments of Weber State College the Athletic Department requires and submits a budget summary. In order to present the student who is not a business major a clear picture of the athletic budget, some explanation of terms is presented. Listed under the heading of Anticipated Income is Guarantees. This is receipts received for playing away games. When Weber plays Montana at Montana a set amount of money is received, It should be noted that guarantees is also listed under Expenditures. This is the money WSC pays Montana when they play here. The figures do not always match in any one year because of the number of home and away games vary. Carry-over refers to 5 percent of the total budget that is held in reserve. Reserve is used for uncontrolable circumstances such as weather and cancellations.Grant-in-aid is often the most misunderstood. This money provides room and board, books, tuition and fees. Fees are earned at WSC by the athlete, by working. The amount of money for grant-in-aids vary by school due to cost of living areas. WSC can not exceed 110 grant-in-aids for the entire athletic program. The telephone expense arises in connection with recuriting. It is less expensive to recruit by phone than by sending a coach. Sometimes the situation arises that the competion for athletes demands a representative and this is the money labled recruting. Scouting is not connected with recruiting. Sending someone to look over the next opponent is scouting. Training table and pregame meals are set by regulations to provide visiting teams with housing and meals. Home games expenses are to provide what ever is necessary to carry out the event. Officials and side line refreshments are included in home game expenses. My . biggest fight wasn't in pictures. It was against cancer. I won that one too, because I got a checkup in time. You might say I beat cancer to the draw. So get a checkup. Nag someone you love into getting a checkup, too. And give money to the American Cancer Society. They're working to rid this world of cancer once and for all . |
