A Homecoming "cutie New Frosh Chiefs Picked The election is over and the Freshman Class has officers. David Thomas is President. Ron Hyde is Vice President. Colleen Curtis is Secretary. Thomas said during his campaign, "My biggest goal is to attain unity among the Freshman Class with everyone pulling to put the Freshman Class on top. This will be quite difficult with almost everyone coming from rival high schools. We can accomplish this, though, through activities in which the whole class can participate." While at Ogden High School, Thomas was Acapella Choir President, Sterling Scholar finalist, state debater and on the student and senior council. He was a member of the Lonely Bulls dance band. While at OHS, Hyde was Tiger of the Week, Boy's Association representative and senior class representative. He said his objectives are to "build a strong and unified class out of the newest members of WSC. It will be an honor to give my time for any reason pertaining to the Freshman Class at WSC." Miss Curtis stated, "I hope to help in the anticipated growth of WSC by becoming involved in student government. There is always room for new ideas, improved programs and originality. My entire effort and enthusiasm will be used to serve the Freshman Class." Miss Curtis, while at OHS, was a representative at Girl's State, Vice President of the National Honor Society, Vice President Ogden High Seminary, Graduation Speaker OHS and active in student government and guilds. She represented OHS in forensic and interpretation meets. Politics '68 The Republicans didn't show . . . will the Dem-ocates? Sherrie is "Super Star" of the TERROR-FILLED Movie "The Last Match" Premiere showing, October 26th - 7:30 p.m., Mt. Ogden, 32nd & Harrison "SUPERSTAR FILM FESTIVAL" & "SPACE GALAXY DANCE" 2524 Wash. Blvd. 11 - 393-3918 who Is Ernie Otero?J by Dave Someday I would like to meet Ernie Otero. He was the unsuccessful candidate for Freshman Class President, but he sure has style. I first heard of Ernie Oct. 8. The cut-off for nominations for Freshman Class Officers was 2 p.m. and John Lowe, Election Chairman, was a little early in picking up the petitions. We counted four for Vice President and three for Secretary. The only petition for President was David Thomas'. It looked like Thomas would be President by default since no other Freshman seemed to want the job. John checked again at the UB main desk shortly after two. Two more petitions had come in for Vice President bringing the total up to six. And Ernie Otero had filed for the presidency. Ernie's address was listed as the dorms. I checked the student directory. He is majoring "in physical education and is carrying 14 hours. He is a Freshman.During the next two weeks I tried to contact Ernie to get a story for the Signpost. He had moved from the dorms without leaving a forwarding address. No posters appeared for him although he was entitled to them under the WSC Associated Students elections laws. Dave had a banner up the day of nomination but it was taken down since the office of President wasn't contended during the primary. There needs to be three or more candidates for a primary run-off. Dave's campaign literature was back up after the primary but still nothing from Ernie. I contacted the Registrar's Office. Yes, Otero was still in school. No, the only address they had was the dorms. I left messages for Ernie at his classes asking him to call me. Nothing. Ernie was following ' the Cal Coolidge dogma of presidential campaigning.Election Day the polls closed at 2 p.m. Remember last Friday. It was impossible to enter the UB without some sweet young thing asking if you were a Freshman. If you growled no the SYT's feelings were hurt. If you whispered yes the SYT gave you a i Ki Mi n ae For that "personal-touch-look" Let Rich fix your hair SPECIAL 100 Human Hair Falls, Cascade Wiglets Appointments RICH TANNER Style Director Anderson Sweet Tart and expounded the virtue of So and So. It was crowded and gay just like downtown. The names of all candidates were scrawled on papers and tacked around campus except Ernie's. Ernie seemed to be sitting in his rocking chair. Another poll was open that day. It was sponsored by the liberal group although you couldn't tell it because the pollsters smelled clean. One question the liberals were asking was do you think that student government represents the students. The liberals closed their poll early and I watched as the results were being tabulated. Most of the questioned felt that the student government did not represent them as students. The Freshman and Homecoming Queen Election place closed and the election committee began counting batches of ballots. One student would read the names and two other students would count each batch of 25 ballots. The counters would then tell the reader what they had counted. The votes for Vice President and Secretary were about equal but Dave was receiving an LBJ landslide. One vote Otero. No votes Otero. As high as four votes Otero. Out of 3524 Freshmen less than 900 voted. The student government does represent the students. All Freshmen Class officers graduated from Ogden High School. All Freshmen did not go to OHS. Freshman Class President represents the greatest single bloc of students on the 14 man Student Senate. INSIDE DOPE FROM OUTSIDE Do you want to be really "in" these days?
