Show Page 5 April 11, 1969 THE SIGNPOST Senate Runner Plans Letters If elected Senator-at-large, Richard Merlin Atwater intends to set up a "Letters to your Senators" system. He also hopes to represent all students and actively seek their opinions. As well, he plans to establish a system of informative communications between the student government and the students themselves. His main goal Is to "establsih concern." Richard is a graduate of Thornton Academy in Maine and is a 4 i 1 ft r t . u r-'V is v ,5 former Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He is a Vietnam veteran. i i i.l L-J RICHARD ATWATER THE WEBER STATE College cheerleaders, Sherry Ellis, Leslie Barlow, Rita Martinez, and Lauree White, are being honored this week. They have supported Weber's athletic teams both at home and during away games. Sporting the purple and white of Weber State, they lead the student body in cheering for victory. "Cooperation" has been the key word among the cheerleaders this year. Whatever problems arose, they were worked out by all members of the group. De Anne Stewart, Rita Martinez, Sherry Ellis, Lauree White, and Leslie Barlow have represented Weber as cheerleaders this year. They have supported the athletic teams at games and represented the college at home and away from Ogden. "We have all supported each other, and it wasn't hard for any one of the girls to help out her neighbor to learn a cheer," commented De Anne Stewart with her usual friendly smile. De Anne is a junior this year. She is interested in sports and loves to dance. She also enjoys art and Formal Planned By Dorm Council "April Love" will dominate the scene of the residence halls spring formal which will be held Friday, April 18. The annual dance will be held in the Ben Lomond Hotel Ballroom, and the Elcieta group will provide music for the occasion. Intermission activities will include the crowning of a queen and her attendants. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. and following the dance an early morning breakfast at the dorms will be held. Price for admission to the dance and to the breakfast is $2.00 a couple. many types of music. This has been her second year as cheer leader. Rita Martinez agreed that they have all enjoyed supporting the teams through their losses and their abundant victories. As a sophomore, she feels that the fans and the sudentbody did a great job of being behind the team. Sherry Ellis enjoys participating in beauty contests, as well as leading cheers. She holds many beauty queen titles; among them the honor of reigning as Miss Ogden. Lauree White is an active personality. She loves all types of outdoor sports, especially snow skiing and horseback riding. She said, "Cheerleading didn't seem like work because to me, it was a lot of fun."
