One of the track season's nicest surprises, Eugene Hill, will make a trip to the NCAA finals in Philadelphia in two weeks. He qualified for the journey by running a 220-yard dash in the time of 21.4 seconds. Another speedy westerner entered in the 220 will be Tommy Smith from San Jose State. The California runner has posted a 19.5 seconds timing in the 220. Because of the recent emphasis of altitude on athletes, it has bsen proved that times recorded at sea-level are much lower than in higher altitudes. This might account for the lower timing of the San Jose runner. Indications from spring football sessions pointed toward a hardhitting and entertaining evening for the coaches if not for the fans. Speaking in entertainment, the Weber State rodeo club went to BYU last week and came away with several top prizes. As a team, the cowboys finished fourth among 10 schools. Dick Wheatley captured a first in one go-around of the calf roping, and Tom Greenwood took fourth in another go-around. Charles Rex won the bronc riding, and Sam Blomquist finished first in the bull riding. Tomorrow, the team will travel to Logan for a meeting at Utah State. Coach Williams' baseball team has hit a slump, suffering a rough weekend in the Northwest. Gon-zaga took two games from the Wildcats, we should say the 'Cats gave them two. The young base-ballers have had their troubles holding onto the ball in recent weeks. Gonzaga dropped out of the tournament so BYU sent another team to fill in. In the morning games Utah State defeated Weber State by a score Of 6-2 and BYU -A beat the BYU-B by a score of 6-2. That evening Weber State defeated BYU-B 2-1. Carlos Adams Intramural Trackfest Scheduled The men's intramural track meet will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the college stadium. The Scratch Meeting will be Wednesday, May 25. All entries are due May 18. The field events will begin at 2:00 p.m. and the running events will begin at 3:00 p.m. All Weber students are urged to come out and see their friends and fellow students in action. Last year a number of intramural records were broken and this might happen again this year. Of fourteen events last year the Salt Lakers won 10. The score was tied at the top of the ninth but the Zags scored from a couple of singles and the error. Weber lost 5-4. Idaho extended their conference mark to 9-1 with two wins over Weber. The Vandals have taken four games from Weber this Spring. Idaho posted scores of 9-2 and 11-2. They hit five home runs and made five double plays to eliminate any threats from the 'Cats. and Mae Zakvar kicked the goals for Weber State. The final game was the highlight of the evening. BYU-A and Utah State played a great ball game. At half-time the score was 0-0 and in the second half BYU scored twice to win the championship by a score of 2-0. A trophy was presented to the BYU team. BYU also received the outstanding forward and outstanding goalie awards. Outstanding defensive player went to Utah State. Warner Thaller also received a trophy from his Weber State team for the great job of organizing the whole tournament. This Saturday the Wildcats will travel to Salt Lake to play against Hollandia at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Park. Banquet Slated for Women Sportsters The Women's Intramural Association would like to invite all women students to attend the Annual Banquet to be held May 17, at 7:30 P.M. at Rothey's Fort Pitt Room. The evening will include a program, awards, and the announcement of new officers for the coming year. Tickets may be obtained from WIA members and officers. Tennis was finished May 9. At the top of the singles ladder are Sue Peterson from Faculty and Sharon Wangsgard from the Funsters. Winning the doubles are Miss Otti and Mrs. Westmorand. Softball is finished for the independent league with Funsters . copping the title; Faculty, second: Binjo's, third; and M & M's fourth. The softball Playday is planned for May 14.
