Show Tage & SIGNPOST April 17, 1961 75 Educators Expected for Reading Meet The new media for reading versatility workshop will be he'd today in the Union Building under the direction of Dr. Leland Mon-son and Mr. Glen J. Ward, WSC English Department. Registration is expected to include about 75 educators from Utah, southern Idaho, eastern Nevada, and western Wyoming. This workshop is sponsored cooperatively by Weber State and the Educational Developmental Laboratories to acquaint the teachers of reading with new media and techniques of instruction and to show how these new methods can be successfully incorporated into the reading program of today in order to cieete more versatile readers for tomorrow. Dorothy Kendall Bracken and Stanford E. Taylor are the two well-qualified speakers of this workshop. Dr. Bracken will speak on "Toward a Broad Program of Reading Instruction". Hanson, college inline department, and Alan -I. Day-'ey, dean of men, are currently touring seven high schools in Utah and Wyoming. Dr. Taylor will speak on "Eye Movements and Reading: Facts and Fallacies". He is president of the Educational Developmental Laboratories, director of research at the Reading and Study Skills Center in New York, inventor of numerous educational devices, and the author of a number of books, articles, and research studies relating to the improvement of reading. Peterson, associate professor of' 3'eology. The trip 'asts fcur days and is open to any interested students. The students must let either Dr. Peterson rr Dr. Walter R. Buss know that he is going by April 20 at the latest. Dr. Peterson stated that the student cost for the trip would be $21 this covering all necessities with the exception of a sleeping bag end personal items. The price may fluctuate slightly if a weather-permit ing Grand Excursion is included in the trip. Because of the great demand, a Mesa .Verde National Park trip, which is usually held every other year, will be held this May 7-11 with a tentative cost of $30. Students planning to go on this trip may notify Dr. Peterson or Dr. Buss by May 4. Tickets for both trips may be bought at the treasurer's office.
