Larry Bishop, Blaine Dear-den, Brian Florence, Hershel Hester, Brent Yates, Leon Peterson, Mike Phillips, Ross Robson and faculty advisor Rod Julander represented the South American country of Columbia. About 1,200 delegates from colleges in the Western Association of the Model UN represented 102 nations of the world. Bishop served as chairman of the Rules Committee which was commended by officials for outstanding accomplishments. The purpose of the Model UN is to give social science students a better understanding of the functions of the UN and its members; international understanding is the goal, of this body. Some of the issues discussed were Red China's proposed admission into the UN and the uprising in Southern Rhodesia. On Friday night, the delegates attended a ball. Travi Leave Tomorrow Some 40 persons will leave at approximately 5:45 am. this Saturday morning for an educational and fun-filled trip to Zions and Bryce National Parks. This was the latest statement to be made by Dr. Dallas O. Peterson, associate professor of the Geology Department, in regards to the coming trip. Dr. Peterson and Dr. Walter R. Buss also stressed the upcoming Mesa Verde trip scheduled for May 7-11. The trip will entail the seeing of such natural wonders as the great arches and natural bridges of Southern Utah. The tentative cost of the trip will be $30 and Mr. Peterson indicated that those who. wish to go should be signed up by May 4. Another trip, Craters of the Moon, will be held May 2 and 3 if enough interest is shown. It will be a picturesque and worthwhile trip, according to Dr. Peterson and the cost is approximately $12.50-Interested students should let Dr. Peterson or Dr. Buss know immediately on this trip. Tickets may be purchased at the treasurer's of- ! fice. ' AWS Banquet Honors Women "The Stream Of Life" recognition banquet, sponsored by the AWS, will be held on April 30 at 7:30 in the UB cafeteria. Admission is 2 and reservation at the UB Main Desk is necessary. No tickets will be sold at the door. Best Spring Dress should be worn. The banquet will honor woman's achievements for the past year in the fields of leadership, scholarship, special service, friendship, sports, dance, music, special arts and publications. Musical numbers will be presented by Miss WSC, Carroll Beus, and her attendants. The AWTS officers for 64-65 will be announced at the conclusion of the banquet. Those nominated for Senior Class president are : John Demel, Fred Brown, Dick Miller ; Vice President: Lynn Boss; Secretary: Louise Taylor, Penny Madsen ; Senators: Larry Smith and Louis Bertram.For Junior Class President: Doug Cox, Jay Gardner; Vice President: Brent Pulsipher and Greg Hanson; Secretary: Nancy Cox, Sue Garner; Senators: Dale Child, Val Parrish, Steve Larsen,1 Perry Fifield and Dean Stokes. For Sophomore Class President: Doug Twede, Terry Hale, Gary Royer; Vice President: Shirley Syc amore, urlull Upheikens, Carolyn Saam; Secretary: Gerri Strong; Senators: Johnny Jones, Dick Christensen, Paul Tanner, Winslow Hurst and Nancy Williams. Two senators will be chosen from each class. The nominees for AMS President are Joe Sneddon, Jerry Kizerian, ;v i-!- -i Utah, Annette Bates, crowns Miss Weber State. Brian Florence; for Vice President: Steve Hodson, Ed Traven; Secretary: Ray Fowers and John O'Dell. For AWS President: Connie Hill, Joyce Christensen, Darleen Jehn-sen; Vice President: Claudia Freestone, Bobbe Dabling, Judy Mad-sen; Secretary: Margene Berghout and Bonnie Mason. Final elections will take place next Thursday. prmg 8 ramfkfi "Les Ailes D'Amour," Lambda Delta Sigma's Spring Formal, takes place tonight at nine at Weber Heights Stake Center. Dress is formal with white dinner jackets for the men. Tickets per couple are $1 for members and $3 for non-members. Music will be provided by the Scotsmen. "This will be a most outstanding dance," said Social Vice President, Tom Rose. "We will have unusual decorations. We are dropping the ceiling to 10 feet from the ground and are putting up a 20-foot waterfall. Long Japanese lights will glow from the ceiling like stars." Lambda Delta Sigma is the only national social club on campus. Carroll Beus, a brown-haired sophomore, was- crowned Miss WSC at an impressive ceremony on April 18 in the Ogden High School auditorium. She was crowned by Annette Bates, reigning Miss Utah, who appeared at the pageant through the courtesy of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. Her attendants are Nyla Berrett, first, and Carolyn Saam, second, both freshmen. Other finalists in the 13-contestant pageant were Donna Bell and Irene Robins. Miss Beus was draped in a red, velvet robe with white satin lining and white fur trim. Her crown was of rhinestones and she was presented with two dozen red roses-Stressing the pageant's concern with education, emcee Bernie Dia- WSC Talent at USU Ralph Degn will represent WSC at the National Talent Show to be held at USU on April 25. Ralph was chosen from 25 contestants at WSC's talent show held on Jan. 10. Instructor Roland Perry from the Music Department will be one of the judges. Kay ' Waldron Smith, Weber's representative last year, was the winner of this talent show. New Leaders Take Ideas fo PSPA Mike Phillips, Ross Robson, Carol Cope, and Steve Bennion, 1964-65 student body officers, will attend the Pacific Students President Association's conference from April 25-29.: At.the-conference, which takes place at Arizona State University in Phoenix,; the officers will gather information and ideas concerning next year s program. Student Body President Mike Phillips is a senior at WSC and a graduate of Ogden High. A political Science and History major, he is an active member of the International Relations Club. Mike plans to go on to law school at Utah State University when he graduates from Weber. He has served as legal advisor Cope Bennion to the Executive Council and has written on student government for the Signpost. Speaking of his future in office. Mike said that he will propose cer tain amendments to be brought up before the end of the year. "My duties ai'e now restricted because I am not officially president until July. However, I have plans to propose that AMS, AWS, and class presidents be put on the senate. I also plan to propose that the Inter national Club Council and the new on-campus residents have two rep resentatives each on the senate." Ross Robson, future student body vice president, is a native of Ogden and graduate of Weber High School. Before coming to Weber State he attended Utah State Uni Phillips Robson mond interviewed each finalist separately asking her, "Why is it important for a girl to have a college education ? " and "How have your expei'iences at Weber helped you?" All contestants received gifts from local merchants. In addition, Miss WSC was presented with a one-year scholarship to Weber by Dr. Merle Allen, dean of students. Miss Beus will represent WSC in the Miss Utah competition in June. In the talent division, Miss Berrett gave a very clever and effective performance, singing a duet with herself. " Miss Saam recited a poem and sang. Miss Beus, a. talented pianist, is the president of La Dianaeda Social Club to, which all three are affiliated. The pageant was presented 'under the direction of the Activities Board and was sponsored by the Special Events Committee. Gary Olsen was the chairman with Jerry Kizerian, Steve Parker, ; and Julie Gehrlein as sub-chairmen. versity for four quarters. While at Weber he has served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court' and as legal advisor to the same organization one year ago. Ross' main interest as. the vice president is to work with the senate as president of the body and to help change the present system to include a larger, number, of senators to represent a larger goup of student organizations on campus. Carol Cope has received the position of Activities Vice President for 1964-65. Carol graduated in 1959 from Bountiful High. In 1962 she received her Associate of Arts ? degree from Weber State College iand is now majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology and Literature. She also attended USU and was a member on the Assembly Board. Plans to increase student activities and school spirit through the creating of a dance guild, Friday evening bowling leagues, week-end movies, pep rallies and student participation in Faculty Assembly Committee are some of the goals of the new Activities V.P. She is an active person, water skiing and swimming being herlfa-vorite sports. She enjoys football and claims to be the only girl on the team. Business and Finance- VP- Steve Bennion is quite familiar to students. Steve has been president of Phoenix and secretary of WSC's Key Club. He is also active in Intramural sports. A junior, Steve is well suited to his new position; he is an Accounting major; He hopes to go on to law school when he graduates. "I want to work with the other (Continued on Page 2) ' |
