Show November 18, 1966 Dabling bY (The scene, I mean: the action, opens just after Bobbe Dabling has conversed with Tom Welch, LD's candidate for Ugly Man. Tom has just asked her if she really means all the rotten things she says. "Yes," she answers, "I go home at night and instead of saying my prayers, I count enemies." She has just left Tom when she runs into Yo-Ho, the om-niscent, but just varely, Snow God.) BD: Hello, diety, how's morality these days? Yo-Ho: Fine, thank you, How are you, my dear child? BD: Fine. No complaints. Yo-Ho: What? Even after that last column you wrote? Why, I should think every fraternity and sorority would be voicing protest against you. BD: You certainly underestimate the maturity and objectivity of our fraternities here at WSC, Yo-Ho. Besides, I can tell that you just barely skimmed my column. If you would have read it with a keen eye and mind, like the students did, you might have noticed that it was criticizing the independents, rather than theclubs--er--frater-nities. Yo-Ho: I did read it, but you must admit it was somewhat incoherent. I couldn't understand a thing you were saying. And while you're admitting, you might also recognize that you were rather terse and trite. Are you really sure there was no backlash from within the groups? BD: None whatsoever. The af-fiUiated members on this campus don't go in for such things, you know. Yo-Ho: All I can say is that you were quite lucky. They really could have hit you with mud. Like: they could have brought up the fact that you were in a club once yourself and that it folded. They could have said you wouldn't have a chance of getting in another club, ever. BD: Really? Do you really think they'd hold it against me? I was planning to rush next quarter. Yo-Ho: What? With your grade point? Your charm? Give it up, Bobbe. BD: Besides, Sharmea folded after I went inactive. After all. we all can't be so popular as to make LD or OT or KY. Some of us have to join SH. (That's a "with it" way of saying Sharmea) If we were all so chicken, we'd decide if we didn't make it in the top clubs, then we wouldn't iiti Bobbe join anything and then Sharmea would shrivel up and die. Yo-Ho: Sharmea did shrivel up and die two years ago. Anyway, just don't say mean things in your column anymore. People might get mad. You'll push your luck and some of thesuavies on campus won't talk to you anymore. This week, try and write something nice about someone. BD: I guess you're right. I was going to write about LD and Phoenix this week, though. Yo-Ho: No BD: Remember 63? Phoenix was tough then. They're not bad now, but then they were around. Big. No other club had the drive the Birdmen did. Phoenix had this sister club, LaDianaeda. They did all kinds of things together. But the next year, some of the milk pushers, the real ring leaders, went on missions. Some of the others got married and Phoenix wasn't so big anymore. Suddenly, LD became a lost sibling. An orphan. Not knowing what to do, they ran under the protective wing of Sigma Delta Pi. Yo-Ho: Didn't LD build their float with Sigma this year, too? BD: No. That's just the point. Delta Phi has had it pretty good with the Swabbies this year. Yo-Ho: That's right. I thought I had noticed an extra twinkle in the Delta Phi man's eye. They're also supposed to be really big this year, aren't they? BD: I guess. Besides , LD nominated Tom Welch as their contestant for Ugly Man. Yo-Ho: He isn't in Phoenix, is he? I thought he was pledging Delta Phi. BD: He is. Yo-Ho: What would you know about true? Anyway, I don't think you'd better say anything about them in your column. You're unpopular enough as it is. And you shouldn't be so hasty in judging LD's actions. Maybe they've forgotten who their brother club is. BD: You're right, Yo-Ho. I'm sure they haven't done any of this intentionally. Well, I'd better start on my column, but what can I say. Yo-Ho: Outside of your mind, there are beautiful features flowing forth from this old world, Bobbe, and you should seek aicer those things.
