Mi ''V.i1 l! 1 IN .MI- Ghoo-Ghoo Carries Gats fro ISU Ga me The Wildcats of Weber, sporting a nifty 4-1 record following last week's 44-13 win over Whitworth, will journey by train to Pocatello tomorrow for the traditional battle with Idaho State's Bengals. At stake in this bitter rivalry is the Bell Trophy, which goes to the winning school for a year. The Orange and Black now have the bell via last year's 31-0 shutout of the Cats, and Weber wants it. Several hundred Ogden fans will take the train trip to the Idaho city to see if the Wildcats can bring it back. And if they do, it will be Weber's first football win in history over the Bengals. ISU, showing a 2-2-1 mark this year, holds a 3-0 lead in the grid series dating back to 1962. Previous scores have been 42-20 in 1962, 36-26 in 1963, and 31-0 in 1964, all in favor of Idaho State. Thus, the Purple and White would like nothing better than some sweet revenge. And this may be the year for the Wildcats. They will, however, face a tough Tiger team. Idaho State is always known for its gigantic linemen and this year is no exception. For the second straight week, the Wildcats will be outweighed in the line. The Wildcats, coached by successful Dick Motta, took to the boards with seven returning lettermen headed by all -conference first team choices Gene Visscher and Jerry Trice. Greg Harrop, an honorable mention pick as a sophomore last year, is the third regular returning for duty. Semi-starters Bob Belka (academic all -conference) and Eddie Tillman (honorable mention) round out the early season first five. And quite a quint they are flashy, good shots, and consistent. They've been installed as the favorites to repeat as conference champions, which would be Weber State's second title in a row. Other lettermen who saw reserve duty last year are guard Frank Hitchens and forward Al Palfreyman. Two other squad members are also back, giving Coach Motta nine out of ten returning from the championship squad. The only missing player is forward John Silbernagle. Newcomers to the Wildcat varsity include 6'6" transfer Roger Crockett and 6'6" sophomore Ted Bryant. Other varsity candidates are Henry Owens and Spencer Wright. Picture day activities, which usually precede the opening of practice, were delayed for a couple of weeks to allow new uniforms to be delivered. lbs. to only 210 lbs. for the Cats. Defensively, Weber State will have a slim weight edge of three pounds in the line. The Bengals are in a rebuilding year, much the same as Weber. Coach Babe Caccia lost all but two regulars from last year's second place club and has filled in with transfers and sophomores. Idaho State, by the way, boasts the top quarterback in the Big Sky in Don Neves. Neves leads the league in total offense and has thrown three touchdown passes. An explosive running troika of Al Jacobsen, Otha Roberts, and George Douglas is capable of breakaway or grind 'em out yards. Roberts, a 200 pounder, is especially effective on fullback dives into the middle of the line. Douglas, co-captain of the Bengals, is a hard-running halfback with power and speed. Along the line all-conference guard Nick Thomassonand end Ron Arnold supply experience to a big interior. Wildcat backs Henry Owens, Lee White, and Mark Beichley should have their hands full trying to get through ISU's solid defensive wall, and probably will sweep to the outside where their lightning speed will come in 2 ArTV i tit i fv Sf P'x . .".
