Miller Races to Alpine Triumph Dale Miller of Ogden, a former Denver University slatster, put on a dazzling performance on the slopes of Snow Basin last weekend to give Weber State a big win in the second annual Alpine invitational.Miller had runs of 35.4 seconds and 41.2 seconds for a 76.6 total for the two-run slalom the best clocking of any entered skiier. Miller, whose father Earl coaches the Wildcat ski team, led the Wildcats to a come-from-behind win in the two-day affair. The Purple and White, trailing Montana State's swift Bobcats after Friday's action by a 99.4 to 97.5 count, edged out the Montanans Saturday by posting several exceptional speeds on the tricky course. Miller, who comes from one of the most famous skiing families in the world, got plenty of help from several other Weber State snow-men. Dan Hinckley and Larry Ross, with times of 82.0 and 82.3 respectively, placed high on the list of collegians. The Wilcats had a composite score of 195.6 points to second-place Montana State with 192.2 points. Idaho State placed third in the meet, Montana University took fourth, Brigham Young fifth, and Ricks College of Idaho finished last. Two of Montana State's top slalom performers fell during their runs, aiding the Wildcats in their quest for victory.
