Hear (Chairman The 74th ,annual Weber College commencement excercises will be held Friday, June 1, at 8 p.m. in the Ogden Latter-day Saints Tab ernacle. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Weber College, Rendell N. Maybe, will deliver the address to the 322 graduates. Occupation Mr. Maybe has been an active attorney since 1934. He served as a member of the Utah House of Representatives from 1934 to 1948 and a member of the Senate from 1953 bo 1956. He has served as director of three banks and numerous other agencies and corpora' tLons. Since a few students have de cided to wait until Weber becomes a four-year institution, the grad uating class is smaller than last years. ) Certificates Of the 322 students graduating, 227 will receive Associate in Sci ence degrees, 31 Will receive Asso ciate in Arts degrees, 40 certifi cates of Completion and an additional 24, Certificates of Proficien cy. By Louise Taylor Associate Editor "It is our duty to find out what the students want and then fill their needs," Brent Moon, student-body President, pointed out in a meeting of iall the new officers this week. AWS He explained the duties of the different officers. AWS is estab lished to develop activities, to promote fellowship and democracy, to help women to participate in all matters of student life, and to allow all girls to express their opinions on different matters, AMS AMS is established to organize social, political, and athletic activities of unaffiliated men, to provide leadership and administration, to provide student opinion, and to develope intramural activities. Sophomore Officers Sophomore class officers are elected to build college spirit, to develop studentbody and college loyalty among the students, to provide leadership, and to assist the Board of Control, Inter-Club Council and others. Committees . Mr. Moon pointed out the different committees that are open for students. At the present time there are openings on the Social Committee, the Recreation Committee, Student-Faculty Relations Committee, Calendar Committee, Assemblies Committee, Publicity Committee, Tradition-Rally Committee, and the Cultural Committee.There are also openings on the Board of Financial Control, Union Board, Elections Board, and the Organization and Student Leadership Board. Unity Mr. Moon stated, "The only way we can gain unity is through everyone participating and working together. We must work with the faculty and administration toward this aim, and we must realize that one group is not superior to the other. BOC To Send Letter To Staff A letter commending this quarter's Signpost Staff for significantly improving the quality of the college newspaper will be sent out shortly, according to a Board of oontrol informant. Next year's editor, who has also been serving this quarter, is Victor Ferre, ia journalism student. Assisting him this quarter are Louise Taylor, Associate Editor; Reed Conger, Sports Editor; Karen Sue McLeod, News Editor; Dennis Ber-rett, Feature Editor; Luther Stewart, Editorial Writer; Catharine Harline, Dnama Editor; Sharon Groothius, Copy Editor; Jerry Newell, Sports Editor; and Gary Hancock, Campus Editor. |
