T.K. Hostess Club Takai Kyoto is the hostess for this year's banquet. 'The hostes-ship rotates among the girls clubs of Weber College The Friendliest Girl will be announced at the banquet iand will be presented with a special gift. Special Guests Special guests to be in attendance are: President and Mrs. William P. Miller, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Clarke, Mrs. Marva Gregory, and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hall. The girls voted Friendliest Girl in previous years are all invited. Last year's Friendliest Girl was Pat Berger. DEBATERS! Series Slates Music Theater Excerpts from best-known operettas will be presented February 22,, at the performance of the "Little Music Theatre" at 8:30 in the Ogden High School Auditorium.The program, staged by David Tihmar, is a joint presentation by the Community Concert Association and Weber College Lecture Series. The night will feature condensed performances of Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" iand the "Song of Norway" by Greig. Also included will be a revue of the best music of the immortal George M. Cohan. This Year's 'Silver Jubilee' Celebrates 25th Anniversary By Eloise McQuown Signpost Staff Writer More than 1100 student debaters representing 51 high schools in three states converge here today for the 25th annual Weber College High School Debating Tournament. "This year marks our Silver Jubilee for an event first organized in 1934 and held each year since, except for two years during World War II," says Dr. Leland H. Monson, organizer and chairman of the Humanities Division. Three . States Students from Utah, Nevada and Idaho will comprise the 205 men's teams, 142 women's teams, 100 B-class teams, the 156 orators, and the 155 extempore speakers. General chairman of the meet is Dr. Monson. E. Garl Green is assisting. Evans and Grove are in charge of the men's division. Woodfield is in charge of the women's division. Nielsen and Wiese are conducting the B-division. Allred and Ward are conducting the extemp and oratory. Dickson .and Jenson are supervising. Judges Judges for the event are: Faculty, men from Hill Field, the Naval Supply Depot, Second Street Depot, Forest Service, Business Establishments; students and housewives. All facilities on the Weber Gam-pus, the L.D.S. Institute, and two Ogden L.D.S. Chapels are being used to accommodate the debaters. Program Features Best Short Stories "Best Short Stories 1960" will be the theme of Pearl and Thatcher Allred's "Adventures in Reading" this Sunday night over radio KVOG at 9:15. The weekly radio program is sponsored jointly as a public service by radio station KVOG and the Camagie Free Library where Mrs. Allred is book reviewer. Mr. Allred heads the Theatre Arts Department here. Debate Teams Place High At U. S. U. Meet Weber won three-farths of the debate contests it entered at the annual midwinter speech meet at Utah State University last Friday and Saturday. About sixty debaters from Weber, Utah State University, Idaho State, BYU, University of Utah and Westminster College vied for top honors in debate, extempore speaking, manuscript reading and interpretation. Undefeated Debate team Douglas Marker and Jim Palmer went undefeated in the two days of competitions. Two other debate teams, Eileen Grix and Ann Moesinger; Corrie Oborn and John Shaw won three out of four of the contests they entered. The fourth team, Ken Gardner and Kaye Schmidt, won two and lost two. In charge of the Weber delegation were debate Coach Dr. Leland H. Monson, Assistant debate coach E. Carl Green, and Glen Ward. |
