Highlighting the dance will be the presentation of a queen and two attendants to be chosen from sixteen nominees sponsored by 8 social and professional clubs. Other attractions include a floor show featuring a bevy of lovely girls, free turkeys, and many excellent prizes. Everyone Invited Faculty members will be invited and letters and tickets will be mailed to all men students at their home. Music will be furnished by Ray Shields and his "Talk of the Town" band. Sport clothes or levis and loud shirts are in order. Dr. Stratford, A.M.S. advisor urged all men to get their dates early and keep up a tradition by making this the best dance of the year. Tickets will be $1.00 per couple. Twenty Girls Grace Bertha Eccles Hall There are about twenty girls living at Bertha Eccles Hall this year from as near as Ogden and as far as 120 miles away, Mrs. Britton Poteet, Jr. said Thursday. Mrs. Poteet, the new housemother, has brightened up the house with the glass and china which she collected in Europe while she was there with her husband. The girls are all talented and they have wonderful times together, says Mrs. Poteet. Homecoming Workers Thanked by Chairman "Thanks for the splendid representation and participation exhibited by Weber College student's and clubs during this year's Homecoming," states Blaine Taylor, student chairman of the event. Float laurels went to La Dianaeda social club for the prize-winning "Can-Can Car". Otyokwa rated honorable mention. Homecoming queen was Etta Mae Taylor. Her attendants were Afton Kunz and Elaine Barker. Sigma Although Sigma was "aced out" of the first half intramural football, the team has high hopes for the final round and are working out every night. From all indications the team will not observe training rules on the evening of November 2, when Sigma will have their second annual rush party. Newman The Newman Club of Weber College is holding a costume Halloween party, Wednesday, October 31, at eight-thirty, in the Saint Josephs' Youth Center. To simplify the costume problem, boys will come dressed as girls, and the girls dressed as boys. Many laughs are promised and a good time is guaranteed for everyone. Refreshments will be served. i if V ' i'1 The Shop of Delicious, Distinctive Candy! ALWAYS FRESH ALWAYS GOOD! DOKOS CANDY CO. I i I 2522 Washington Blvd. "Trying Discs" By Georgia Bobolis Greetings all you jazz enthusiasts and platter hounds! Settle back in your easy chairs with pencil and paper and get ready to list the latest record releases for your collection. For years we've been waiting for Stan Kenton (that wonderful man) to give us an arrangement of the classic "Laura." At last he's done it! On his latest release for Capitol he gives an easy relaxed version of the lovely song with the band adding some subtle, modern touches. On the flipover we catch a bop tune rightly titled "Jump For Joe." This will definitely set you jumping, we hope for "joy." Come-Back Star Here's a prediction on a song we feel sure is going to be on the hit parade and one of your favorites. The song is the haunting "It's No Sin." Savannah Churchill, who handled the warbling chores for Count Basie many years ago, has come back as a single and her refreshing style and mellow voice are perfectly suited for the song. It's a Columbia disc with "I Don't Be-live in Tomorrow" on the other side. Anyone who was lucky enough to see Ray Anthony at the Randevu a few months ago (including yours truly) will certainly be happy to know that RCA Victor has re-issued one of Ray's best recordings, "My Heart Is Out of Town" and "Harlem Nocturne." The ' first is Anthony at his casual best on a tune that will never leave your mind. "Harlem Nocturne" has treat trumpet by Ray and all the strange, melodic harmony a nocturne should have. Poetically, it's really "poignant." Don't miss Ray's album on LP too, which has this record and such modern classics as "Tenderly" and "Man With A Horn." Wonder Why? Back to the more popular trend we can't forget one of the loveliest tunes the movies have given us. Of course we mean everyone's favorite, "Wonder Why." This song has everything a great tune should have including a really fine rendition by Billy Eckstine. We also like Toni Arden's dramatic style on this song with the haunting French ballad, "Dark Is the Night" to complete her Columbia platter. Incidentally, the composer of both these tunes is the same Nicholas Bredszky who penned the now immortal, "Be My Love." Here's a last-minute tip on some listenable and dancing music, Jerry Gray's latest Decca album, "In the Mood." La Dianaeda "La Dianaeda should be well represented in all service organizations," according to recently elected representatives. New representatives and organizations are Marilyn Lamborn, Women's Athletic Association; Phyllis Randall, Associated Women Students; Hazel Batchelor, Inter-club Council. Second rush party will take place November 3. Approximately 40 freshmen girls will be rushed. Club alumni will be presented at the party. Facts 'n Figures In WWI, between eight and 11 of every 100 wounded soldiers who reached advanced surgical hospitals died. In WWII, the mortality rate dropped to less than five per 100, and in the Korean conflict that was cut nearly in half to less than three. Credit for that record can be traced to the prompt use of plasma and whole blood. Remember that wonder drugs and surgical skill can't accomplish much unless the wounded man can be gotten to a hospital alive. SIGNPOST 0 ft O O ' Alpha Rho Omega About this time each year, the final rush parties are of big importance. After much arranging with Miss Welling, Alpha Rho finally set Nov. 5, 1951 for theirs. It promises to be a lot of fun. The annual smoker which has been set for Nov. 19, 1951, at the Berthana Roller Rink, will provide many good bouts by champions. (See Sports section for details). Many other parties are being planned which will provide a full year of activity. Skull Skull men are making big plans for their rush party, which will be held November 7th at the Lake View Stake Lodge. According to members, there has never been anything like it in the annals of club rushes. Fun dancing, eating and sheer enjoyment are in store for all rushees. Skull met Sigma in their first intramural game for a win of 6-0. In another game Skull conceded the game to Delta Phi on one foot of yardage. Student Heads Get Leadership Pointers Weber College student officers, Fred Ball, Hugh Jacobs, Carol Barker, Norma Creer, and LaMoyne Garside, accompanied by Dr. Robert A. Clark, Dean of Faculty, left Thursday evening, Oct. 25 for Car bon College at Price, Utah to take part in the annual Goodwill conference of student officers to be held there today. Representatives from all intermountain junior colleges will attend. The convention, according to Fred Ball, is really what might be known as a school for student of ficers. All phases of student government will be discussed during the two-day conference. Weber Participant A representative of each institution will head the discussions. Hugh Jacobs, Weber College Student Body Treasurer, will head the discussion on athletics. Van Washburn, student body president of Carbon College, will act as host and general chairman of the convention. Rush week is stealthily approaching.Rush week, that's the hectic period set aside for the various social clubs to measure you up and for you to measure them up. While they're trying to decide whether to keep you or throw you' back you try to decide whether to stay or jump back. Will You Come? One bright morning in the not too distant future you will stroll unsuspectingly on to Weber's buzzing campus and while you are still digging the sleep andor blood out of your eyes a group of characters will surround you. You are proffered an invitation. Accept it by all means. That gun they carry is loaded. Make your escape as gracefully and quickly as possible. You are not destined to be free for long. Before you can say, by the blankety blank, or even wipe the, sweat off your brow you are again surrounded. Another invitation. You've never been so popular. Ask them to put their knives away and accept. Every Club Acts Sometime within a matter of seconds, minutes, or hours you may be approached by one, or all, of the three remaining social clubs and as gracefully invited to their afray. However, no matter how many invites you are forced to accept, keep your guard up until November 10th. Then rush week is over and you relax until Nov. 16 when the bids are out. You gals be extremely careful in accepting invitations. Rumor has it that there is a certain boy's club on the campus that's short of material, and it never pays to underestimate a Weber College social club. Yes it's your day. The stuck up sophomore who could only manage a small grunt when spoken to yesterday now gives out with a booming "Hi-ya". Look the clubs over carefully, after all you have to live with 'em for two years. And then there was the man who couldn't understand why he got a ticket. The sign said "Fine for Parking." i WASHABLE DRIES FAST Made of very heavy double woven sued-ed nylon that look feels and wean like leather Sparkling Sport Colors Grey Navy Brown Maroon Beige Copper Ton Chamois Taupe .
