Show Page 4 SIGNPOST May 15, 1959 EVERYBODY COME Sophs Plan Gala Time By John Hale "If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise. If you go down in the woods today, you'd better go in disguise." Today is it, gang ! Not the teddy bears picnic, but even better the sophomores picnic; and guess what? We're all invited to the upper classmen's party. We're even welcome. Bring your girls, dogs, mothers, children, and stock broker. You'll need the latter to watch your investments up there. Queen's Auctioned The highlight of the affair will be the auctioning of Weber College Queens to the highest bidders. (If Abe Lincoln or John Brown could read this they'd turn over in their graves.) But it's not that bad or good. The highest bidder only gets a date with the queen, and then he has to spend the money he bid on the date. This could prove to be a task. One of last year's big bidders, (in the neighborhood of forty dollars) had to take his beauty on a chartered plane trip over the valley. You sure as heck can't park a plane! Enough of these carnal thoughts. The other events of the day will be an All Star student Faculty Softball game. Experts claim the old timers have had it. Also the new sophomores class officers will be announced.Plenty of food, and a jovial spirit (that's singular) will attend the party. See you there. Redford completed his role of director of the Weber College Theater with the outstanding production of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." The characteristic of a farce as being fast mving was excellently carried out in the blocking of the comic scenes. Besides bringing the professional touch to the play as director, H. E. D. succeeded in making the role of Petruchio vibrate with the ruling manliness needed for his character. Excellent Portrayal Closely working with Redford was Carolyn G. Lindsley as Kath-erine, the "Shrew." Her portrayal was of the highest excellence. The scene between Katherine and Petruchio portraying the physical fight was very realistic. Carolyn beautifully accomplished the change from the "Shrew" to the loving wife. Her last speech will be remembered as one of the outstanding moments of the play. Good Cast The supporting members of the cast were very good. Ronald Jenkins as the "lead by the chain lover" was very entertaining. Bob Wood as the fappish Tranio was excellent. His leg poses and constant handkerchief business made his character very consistent. John Elzey made a great Bap-tista with his character portrayal I and the outstanding make-up job. S He is to be congratulated on the j beautiful scenery. The set was : considered one of the best ever ' used in this area. Robert Peters and Laurence Burton as the suitors to Bianca were very comic and enjoyable to the audience. Pat Behlingi's physical charm decorated the stage quite nicely. Russ Hagen as the picked on servant to Petruchio added vitality to the play. Val Stuart made a vibrating bouncy servant. Jim Hurst's performance of the Pedant was extremely entertaining. The "I'm his father, so his mother says" line provided the audience with a line to remember as Weber College's studentbody president made his theatre debut.
