It is because of this affiliation with the entire student body that Signpost has restrictions as well as privileges. y Signpost sees the necessity of printing a policy list of its rights and restrictions in its first issue. These will govern as long as this editor has power to regulate policy or until he changes his mind. Something Signpost thinks everyone is going to have to realize is that Signpost has strict deadlines. And unless we're hard up for copy or unless you're a darn cute girl, you'll have to adhere. As much as Signpost would like to, Signpost cannot indulge in mink coat handling nor any other phases of politics other than possibly opinion polls conducted on the campus or a pro and con section written by persons representing themselves. There seems to be a law somewhere, though Signpost cannot rcall where, against the advertisement of liquor and tobacco. Even commercial bribery will have to be disregarded. Though Signpost cannot assure the printing of all articles, letters, pictures, cartoons, Signpost will guarantee full consideration of each. Finance and ambition limit the publication of Signpost to every two weeks though occasionally we put out a special edition, and even more occasionally we don't make it out until three weeks after last publication. Signpost has reservation of several rights which should be included in the following: Right to choose which articles will be printed and which will command best position and headlines . . . Right to print editorials attacking any injustice or inefficiency other than political or the singling out of any person or faculty member . . . Right to print a signed letter attacking anything with the understanding that Signpost is not supporting what is said but only endorsing its right to be said. Everyone will have the right to defend himself or his organization under the same basis of endorsement of the right to say but not support of what is said. Everyone has the right, in fact, Signpost urges everyone to criticize the Signpost. Any. article, by-lined or not, except a letter to the editor" will be subject to change and even rewriting. By-lined articles and editorials will, however, be changed only with consent and upon consultation with the writer. LYD1A TANNER SERVED WELL The life of Mrs. Lydia H. Tanner closed during the past summer after serving Weber College with undeviating loyalty during three decades. In many ways both large and small Mrs. Tanner was outstanding in her service to the institution, far beyond the call of duty required by her employment as a teacher of the cooking art. She took a deep personal interest in the problems of the girls she taught. Her support of the administration of the college was made known by her many times in public utterances. No one could question her sincerity since her professions of duty and affection were supported by continuous deeds of good will. As a matter of truth one must declare that in the civic, educational, religious and neighborhood circles where she worked and resided, Mrs. Tanner managed somehow to include in her own person all the kind hopes and works one has learned to expect of the perfect mother. And with this active solicitude she combined the endless effort of the natural teacher who is always trying to improve and guide her students toward a better life. May her reward in the hereafter be proportionately great. Standards Sets Rules on Campus Recommendations of standard committee: Students and Faculty members are advised to keep their coats, hats and other valuables locked up or left where they can be properly supervised. This suggestion is necessitated by the fact that there has been some stealing of overcoats, jackets and valuables of late. All concerning are requested to do the following in order to reduce their losses to a minimum: A. Write their- names in their books and not leave them around unsupervised. B. Keep all possible equipment in lockers which are locked up with an extra good lock. Safekeeping of valuables, especially with the attendants in the gymnasium, will prevent unecessary risk. C. Students should not leave keys in their cars or leave the cars unlocked. D. Park their cars carefully to permit space available for others. Congestion is a serious oroblem and every available area should be utilized. USE OUR PARKING LOT. KEEP ALL DRIVEWAYS ENTRANCES AND RESTRICTED AREAS CLEAR, especially the loading area in front of the Nursery Building. This area was restricted to prevent accidents, and to provide safety for all. All concerned are urged to park only in proper zones. SCHOOL SUPPLY HEADQUARTERS Steve's Office Supply 416 - 24th Street The Sun In Ogden's Picture There are as many bright spots in Weber's picture this year as there is sunshine, fall colors, brilliance and cheer on the mountainside above the new campus. The school is just beginning to realize the blessings which the five new buildings and the stadium will mean when completed next year. The nearer they grow to completion the greater will be the realization that Weber is approaching a new era. There is never a morning that I do not look out upon the new campus, and never a morning that I do not see new truth in the prophet's statement, "I will lift mine eyes unto the hills whence cometh my help . . . My help cometh fro the Lord which made heaven and earth." In such a setting and with such a spirit it is inevitable that Weber is destined not only to make remarkable physical expansion but more and more to become as Woodrow Wilson says, "a nursery of principle and honor." How desperately the good old United States needs more of such nurseries. When I welcome you, the students and faculty of Weber College, I welcome a group that is doing more to put a sun in Ogden's picture than any other group. This group definitely has a remarkable future. This is the group that leads the community to dwell upon its future, its successes, its hopes, and its satisfactions rather than upon its failures, its fears, and its disappointments. This is the group that is helping to give the community faith in the future, and faith will remove mountains. The responsibility upon you, my fellow students and faculty, in this year of crucial legislation for Weber College is breath-taking, yet knowing you as I do, I look THE VERY BEST IN ALL GOOD EATS COLLEGE i ...For the personal touch at dances, parties, receptions Mothre Telephone 6292 forward to these terrific responsibilities calmly with complete confidence that you, the community and state will do something that has never been done before; namely, give Weber College a four-year charter and give Ogden's youth an equal educational opportunity with that of the youth of the other populous areas of Utah and the West.
