Larsen There never has been a time when the job outlook was either so vague or so exciting as today. There never has been a time when the wrong decision was easier or when the right decision could offer half so great a promise of accomplishment. These accomplishments should be computed in terms of human service as well as personal gains.) Every ambitious student about to begin a career is curious to learn what vocations are open to him, or will be when he is ready' to go to work. Equipment and Knowledge There is no secret weapon to be used on your way to victory in today's battle for jobs. In any struggle, those with the best equipment, with the greatest knowledge, and the will to use it, invariably win. Obviously, before you can obtain complete job satisfaction, you must know what work and environment suit you best. How are you going to discover this without actually performing the duties of the various jobs? Also, what is your J-Q? Job-Q-Formula The answer to these questions is probably the way to your future life's work. Through the use of a thoroughly scientific, well rounded-out Job-Q-Formula, you will be able to add up your education and your hard-earned experience and your native abilities and inclinations in order to determine the type of work that can bring you, not only your greatest opportunities, but the largest measures of happiness.According to John and Enid - .-. rf" Greetings to our Friends and our Neighbors on this Happy Holiday! ' hF yJ) wff Wells, in their recent publication, "The Job That Fits You and How to Get It," you should sum up your J-Q-Formula in an accurate way, combining the evaluation of the following: your talents, abilities, likes, dislikes, aptitudes, character and quirks, your hobbies, avocations, sports and other spare time interests, your education and your work experience. New Guidance Center Added together, these equal an interesting pathway to a better job, more pay, greater personal satisfaction and happiness. The new Guidance Center at Weber college can assist you in putting the factors of the Job-Q-Formula together and arriving at a total which may be used in your struggle for the right job. Students aware of these techniques will register in the winter quarter so that the courses taken will increase the value of their Job-Q-Formula. Debaters Garner More Laurels With the return of the Weber college debate teams, new honor was brought to the school. The girls made the best showing by winning four out of seven debates and going to the finals. The boys won a number of their debates, but did not go to the finals. The debate at Pepperdine was in junior and senior divisions. The competition was very stiff for the Weber teams because they debated against freshmen and sophomores of senior colleges. Today's wjpiu is .-Mioum we aeciare war on Pro By Lloyd Ferguson It is better to declare war on Russia now while we have a few allies that we can depend on rather than wait and find ourselves the only wall against communism. Even the people of the United States are beginning to wonder if the cause of democracy is worth fighting and dying for. When we ourselves begin to doubt the vality of our cause, things of the nations that are torn by strife and strikes, it probably isn't worth a red cent to them as to whether they have freedom or not. We can see now that the United Nations is beginning to fall apart at the seams. Britain is beginning to send out feelers to the Communists in the form of recognizing Red China and stating that she would not fight China. France did not even want to talk it over with the United States. With these two nations, can we count on any one else to stand by our side, or will we go down in the ages as a people who made their appearance, controlled affairs for a while and then disappear from the face of the earth. War Would Unite We need a war to unite the free nations in a common cause and that cause is the freedom of the oeople. If we wait we will lag and if we lag, Russia will have us. Russia's government can act within hours and our government can't get started for days. It took almost a day to declare war on the Axis. With push button war facing us, can we wait and be taken by surorise? Russia has six heavily armored divisions in Europe. They have airfields sootted all over Europe. They can take the initiative within a moments notice, and this is half the battle. Against that we have no heavy armor, with the exception of a few 33 ton British Comets, that do not stand up to the Russian Stalin in weight or fire power. The United States has only a few planes in Europe and barely any troops. Of the 3,000,000 Yanks most of them are not trained for combat. No Time to Wait The more we wait the more tendency our government has of the fifth of a series of controversial and devoted to the pro-con discussions itussia r Con By Merrill Sessions What is the price of peace? Is it more than the price of war? Is the all mighty dollar worth more than human life? If we were to put as much effort into making peace as we do into the waging of the war, we would be able to reap the benefits of peace forever. Some of the narrow minded capitalists iiy this nation think war is cheaper than peace, thereby placing more value on the dollar than on the human life. In time of war everyone does his share; they have a spirit of national unity not only in action but in feeling. Why can't the United States put forth the effort, instead of saying let the other man do it. If every one was willing to put forth the effort that he would for war, think of the goal that could-, be reached. Russia and Feelings We are at present fighting a war of nerves and now we are losing. Russia is working on our feelings by placing us in positions that are impossible to contemplate the outcome. We are in sucn hysteria that to many the only way out is to act immediatejy. Peace is the Christian way to settle our differences. If we were to declare war now, it would include every nook and cranny on the sur-face of the earth. A Gobal war in these times would mean almost sure destruction of our civiliza- tion. Maybe it would be the end Of all mankind. We can't declare war now because of unpreparedness. This came out of the incidents in Korea in the past two weeks. Russia has larger, and better armed tanks, more new jet fighter planes, three times as many snorkel subs and ten times as many men in combat divisions as we have; besides a million Chinese to help them. leaning toward half isolation and half world cooperation and other nations of the world are afraid of this attitude. Won't we be in a pretty spot if we should wake up some morning and find that the rest of world has gone to the Communism side in preference to fighting for their freedom? Sometimes it is better to live and be a slave, than to die and let some one else enjoy the freedom. This is the attitude that some of the nations are beginning to take. Why die for the United States when there is nothing to gain? A war to unite the free nations is the only step left in keeping our democracy. In every country of the world there are fifth columnists that are ready to strike. China alone has 1,000,000 men in Korea, which is more than the United States can muster by combining all occupation troops. Russia has six heavily armored divisions in Europe that are ready to strike at a moment's notice. It would be to walk to the slaughterhouse to enter into a conflict now. World Domination Communism as it exists today has one goal world domination by its form of government. Every nation founded on this belief has lived but a few years. Yugoslavia, one of the satelites, has denounced Russia's type of totalitarianism. Even in Russia there are evidences of discontent and contempt. If we should declare war now, it would unite these people under a common cause. Wouldn't it be far cheaper to spend a few dollars and act like Cristaians, than to waste human life on which no value can be placed. War is a last resort. Are we so incapable of settling disputes that we must take war? AGE Youth You are young only once. After that it becomes necessary to think up a new line of excuses for what you do. Truckers News.
