A representative of this paper paid a visit to the live business houses of this city on Thursday, and found the clerks busy waiting upon customers and attending at-tending to the Christmas trade. Business Busi-ness i.s reported better than at this lime last year. The Co-op, the oldest established and leading mercantile establishment, has a line assortment of Christmas goods, and the usual line of dress goods, dry goods, groceries, hardware, etc., etc., are to be had here ofthe best quality, qual-ity, and the well-known character of the house for straight dealing commands com-mands an increasing trade. The clerks, Mgr. McArthur and Miss Lottie Ashby, are at all times pleasant and courteous. Mrs. Addie E. Price and clerk, Miss Eva Price, show an elegant line of choice goods and Christmas toys and presents to their numerous patrons. Mrs. Price is a very popular business woman, and has the knack of giving her customers just what they want. A. R. Whitehead & Son are doing a rushing business in goods of all kinds and descriptions, among them being a select stock of dolls for the children and Christmas toys. The manager, "RasM Whitehead, is giving away an elegant Rochester lamp, for which every purchaser of a dollar's worth of goods has a chance. The Pioneer Millinery Shop has a very fine stock of ladies' hats of the very latest style, also childrens' and infant's wraps, cloaks, etc. The manager, man-ager, Mrs. Julia A. Pace, is having a clearing sale, and disposing of this stock before Christmas at greatly reduced re-duced prices. The Snow Furniture Store has a good supply of furniture on hand, and the manager, Erastus B. Snow, is at all times pleased to show goods whether purchased or not. John Pymm's store has a general assortment as-sortment of novelties, jewelry, groceries, grocer-ies, stationery, etc., and are doing good Christmas trade. The City Chop House is prepared to attend to the wants of the inner man, or woman, at any hour. The City Drug Store is at present undo:' fho management of Robert Ashby, the proprietor, J. R, Michels being away on business. He is expected expect-ed to return Saturday with a, new stock of goods. The Washington Roller Mills is kept busy turning out flour of excellent quality, The quantity of grain being put through the mills is larger than |
