Show To Name School. Washington County News. Dear editor: Knowing the value of printers ink to accomplish any ' desired end, I take this opportunity to try and enlist you in the cause I am going to advocate, that is giving a suitable name to the massive, grand, and beautiful school building that we are erecting. I think it should have a name other than the Tenth district school house. To name it in honor of a man whose name would suggest greatness, honor, or patriotism is, to my mind, deserving of consideration. I have a name to suggest to the taxpayers. tax-payers. Not that of Franklin, Madison, . or Lowell, but one of less greatness. Why? For learning? No, but for his philanthrophy, and the use of his wealth for the benefit of the poor; who is thought of as our loved dead are. taken tak-en in a hearse to the cemetary, or when we hear the music of the Tabernacle organ, or when we see the lovely baths at the Temple. All presented by the same humble, big-hearted man, George Wood wrard. I need not mention his many gifts to the community, and to tho Church. He is known for his great liberality, and as he has no children to perpetuate his name, I suggest that we name our beautiful building The Woodward School, and that the name be carved over the main entrance. Hoping this will meet the mind of yourself, as also the taxvayers, respect-fully, respect-fully, ' A Taxpavj-.h. |
