harmony located comfortably in tents camp houses and homes ready to enjoy the third annual M I 1 A pine valley outing last year years s events were being recounted and ev ery one was full of anticipation of the pleasures awaiting them the trip from the warmer districts to pine valley s wonderful coolness brought everyone in with healthy ap petites and the conclusion of the first camp supper left bee keepers wonder ing if the supplies brought would halt half suffice at 9 00 p in prof earl J bleak with his orchestra called the crowds together in front of the residence of mrs effie snow where they entertain ed us with splendid music tor for an hour M I 1 A supt bupt wayne gardner then outlined the program to be tol fol lowed tor for the succeeding three days after which all retired to enjoy a W good night s rest wednesday and until noon thurs day we were re set apart tor for the special fathers and sons outing the worn wom en and girls to enjoy themselves with a program and games in the town however so many of the boys attend ing had no fathers with them hence remained in the town during the day and d assisted in entertaining the young ladies the favorite pastime seeming to be horseback riding many girls previously timid of in mounting a horse found themselves riding tiding up and down the streets with the recklessness of western girls of the story books but fortunately only one girl was hurt and she not serf bously we missed the splendid sup er Vision of such mothers as mrs riina mina taylor who were with us last jear ear and trust they will find it pos sible to be with us when we go again because of the large number of boys remaining in town a dance was given on wednesday evening in place of the girls party that had been sched aled and it proved ta be a most sat is factory way of entertaining the crowd attending the music was ex cellena and the dancers forgot the need of waxed floors there being nothing scheduled tor for thursday forenoon some went fishing while the girls enjoyed more horse back riding some went gathering pine gum on the hill at the north and others merely rested A special committee with ranger S A mac farlane and bruce snow as guides ex elored the possible places tor for the lo 10 eating of permanent camp homes tor for boys and girls returning to town be tore fore noon with reports of three very desirable places two of which will be selected later after the return of the fathers and sons thursday noon the after part of the day was wag devoted to sports tinder under the direction of keith reith L seeg miller and included relay races one good ball game mule racing sp f races potato races and other esting games which were enjoyed by both players and onlookers adoth er dance was given in the evening and was well attended after the dance many joined those who had gathered at the beckstrom place to hear the radio program B jarvis jr having his radio set up at that place due to a storm interference the best results were not obtained until 11 00 p in Thur thurmay thursday day but on the fol following loving evening a splendid pro gram tron fron toa to angeles was wag enjoyed by a la ge go gumbei of both townspeople and visitors friday morning everyone began preparations early tor for the hike to the top of mount beautiful due to some error ranger macfarlane had not received notice of his appoint ment as chairman of the hike allons hence this part of the program had not been systematically worked out as it has been during the two previous outings instead of leav ing as a body groups began leaving the town as early as 7 00 a in some horseback and some on toot foot up forsyth canyon the latest ones taking the summit trail however reached further water valley in time tor for the noon camp and lunch t h SL some made the return trip to town after viewing the wonderful scenery from the high points of the mountain but the majority learning that there was a little snow on the trail contin aed on across the mountain return ing to town over the whipple trail just before dusk many more now know of the granduer gran duer of the pine valley mountains and president snow voiced the general sentiment when he said this is the most won darful scenery I 1 have ever known frequent exclamations of surprise a and thrill came from the crowds as f they entered ea each c h new and beautiful valley each one so inviting that ev elyone wanted to just stay on tor for ever and enjoy it and the wonder grew within each mind that all this beauty and splendor of the mountains could be so very near and yet so lit tie tle known even by those living in the very nearby towns it is sufficient to say that none will be satisfied with this one trip across the top of pine valley mountain still all we have had so tar far is a mere glimpse it is hoped that when we go again we will make this part of the outing the big feature and take time to go into the byways of the trail where as many more wonders are awaiting the joy of our conning those who were with such guides as ranger macfarlane or bruce snow were thrilled with the wonderful views afforded from the various lookout points and none will be satisfied until they can go again the pine valley residents made everyone teel feel right at home opened their houses with that generous hos vitality pita lity for which they are so well known fed the numerous horses and resented any offer of pay for these favors the affable little storekeeper with her pleasant assist ants are also to be remembered tor for their kindly treatment of customers their willingness to work all the time and overtime so that none should be neglected and remember pine valley we are coming again next year and the next and all the years after as long as
