the dixie S power co f he had gone to the transformer just north of the dixie flour mill about four 0 clock to restore current which furnishes the mill with power i there are two transformers on the one pole at this place dilworth 11 snow the millea saw riding as he passed on his way vay to the transform h er about tour four 0 clock and spoke to him about 20 minutes later as the power bad had not come on at the mill dilworth went toward the transformer saw hiding riding and called to him seeing the position riding was in and re calving no answer he suspected some a thing i was was wrong and rushed to the dixie garage where he telephoned to the dixie power co cc I 1 Y bigelow of the dixie power co office went there saw what had happened and brought up ropes with which to get him down doctors f were also summoned sam thomp eon son of the S U telephone co went up to the transformers and lowered riding to the ground it being then 10 minutes past 6 0 clock doctors F J woodbury and D A mcgregor were both there and pronounced life extinct mr wr thompson who went up and lowered riding says that riding was lying across the secondary wires when he reached him marks made by the current which caused his death showed shoed on his left knee and on his back below the right shoulder exactly how he came in contact with the primary wires carrying a tollage of will never be known as so tar far as known nobody saw him at at a that particular moment mr and mrs karl N snow saw him working near the transformer from one of the windows in their residence there was a stiff wind blowing at the time and they saw his hat blow off near ly every man will make an tary movement to catch hia his bat hat when 4 it blows off and it Is possible that nt this was done by gordon riding and fa that the movement caused him to touch the high voltage wire he N a as a very careful man a thoroughly good workman who knew the danger attendant to his calling and however the accident occurred no one believes city it was caused through carelessness john gordon riding was born in this city on december 6 1891 a son 4 of ef mr and mrs john H riding he n was married nine years ago to sarah ellen foster and to them were born X three children the youngest of t these maxine a bright little girl 16 15 ay months old died on october ath this year and her funeral was held just 7 five weeks to the day that her father a met his death he went to los an T feles goles cal several years ago and took a course in automobile median ics acs he has worked on and off tor for the dixie power co since it first started here as auto mechanic and lineman and had been steadily em am A aloyed by that company for two years prior to his death he was an exem exam plary young man genial and winning in manner highly esteemed by his employers and fellow follow workers and by the community generally he was devotedly attached to his wife 1 and children and love ruled his home r everybody felt as if one near to them had been called when he passed away and the sympathy extended to his sorrowing wife and relatives Is deep felt and sincere funeral sen Seril ices ces funeral services were held in the stake tabernacle violinist pres edw 11 snow said in part f the presence of such a great number here is a language that wa we can all realize and understand as a mark of love and respect to tho the bereaved family and of all of us and in fluentes fluen ces our lives to a great extent we cannot fully understand some of the ways of the lord and do not comprehend his ills purposes but we do know that they are wise and for our benefit beneat we do not feel so keenly when old people are called we feel that they have done all they can here and are ate living more in the future but we are pained and grieved when life like this Is cut down in the flower of manhood but we ought to acknowledge the hand pt the lord even in death we can never find full peace and confort until we can say in our hearts the lord death all things well death Is but a birth to the immortal world our salvation will not be perfect without this change it if we were without hope of a glorius heritage hereafter we would be most miserable erable we have hope and faith through the god jesus christ our elder brother we do not symbolize death in black colors death in the dawn of a new day it s not a leap in the dark to us we have everything white at our funerals as symbolical of life I 1 cannot say too much in praise of this young man s life he was reared among us and we all know his manly qualities and especially his trustworthiness truet worthiness he died in the disc discharge haige of his duty the same fame aa as a soldier on the battlefield not shrink ing from the risk he must have known he was taking it Is sad to think of the heartstrings torn of lov a ed ones it Is well that it Is so other wase wise we would not so well face the trials of life sadness is natural when loved ones are taken from us there thera is a great comfort in being prepared to die this young man had not broken his lows he had not defiled bis his body he was worthy ot of exaltation in the kingdom of our father what a pleasure this knowledge Is in our sad bad ut bag AVO 1 po pa mothers to the afflicted giving their them comfort and sustaining them we wll will all find comfort and satisfaction in pre forming that office we know that this young woman will find comfort and brightness in life with hei her children it Is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all all these seeming paradoxes will be made I 1 have known this youth about 10 years he was a graduate of the dixie normal college in the class of 1913 and was one of our first graduates he ile lived in usefulness and was diligent in all things his nemory is dear to us dilworth snow sang lead on dear lord pres george F whitehead said no man could be a more devoted father and husband than gordon rid ing he was a good neighbor cheer ful dutiful and a genius at making people happy we mourn his taking away but have satisfaction in knowing that he gos from one life to another to continue his work his wife and family will again join him cannon said he knew the grandfather of this young man when he erst first came to utah was pleased to hear the words of comfort extended to the widow and children and trusted that we would extend the hand of fellowship to them at all times though this body now lies before us the spirit and the body will be reunited and the wife and children will join him it if they keep the commandments mand ments creator this young wife can in her heart the joy and satisfaction that she will meet her husband again it Is one of the fundamentals of the gospel the reality of death is but a step forward in this mission to another mission this wife and mother has this faith my faith and my hope la is that the lord will bless this sorrowing mother and lift the load of sorrow that oppresses her that she will look forward with hope and joy she will have the opportunity port unity to do work for this young man hers here prayed the lord to bless and console her and other sorrowing relatives ladles ladies 1913 a wreath from the dixie power co one from the dixie rod gun club and many others many children brought floral tributes besides those brought by older people the grave was packed thickly with flowers chrysanthemums principally and it was remarked that no grave in the cemetery had ever had a greater number of floral offerings many flowers were laid at the same time on the grave of maxine the little daughter who died a few weeks before her father the many flowers and the large number of people attending attested strongly the esteem in which the departed young man was held by the community A dinner was given at the brooks home on mount blount pope last friday night in honor of the birthday of grandma emily brooks forty members of the family and old friends sat down to the splendid meal prepared for the occasion and a real good time was had the news joins the many friends of sister brooks in wishing her many happy returns A dixie club has been organized by students attending the B Y U provo with 11 11 Woo woodward award hon president emily T woodward honorary vice pies president ident laura gardner president W T atkin vice prest dent edna snow secretary and treasurer the amusement committee the three officers above named margaret gardner and heber holt mr robert edward manning ot of gilbert ariz and miss zeila zella johnson of chandler arizona were
